Topic: whitby

just had a fanfastic weekend in whitby with the wife to celebrate her 40th birthday , stayed at the marine down at harbour http://www.the-marine-hotel.co.uk/ , superb place with only 4 rooms we stayed in room 3 , fresh fish / lobster scallops the lot served thru-out the day and evening , breakfast was just as good around 12 different choices with the usual full english / eggs benedict , omelettes and even a 8oz steak served with eggs tongue , went to harveys just further down the harbour side on saturday evening where they serve stone steaks a lump of raw fillet placed on sizzling granite which you cook yourself . great weekend with superb food .

Re: whitby

Harvey's? Is that a white building on the corner? Just down from the fish market?

She’s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I’m just another lackey, but I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki...

Re: whitby

Booked solid through to July. I was looking for a place round that part of the world for next weekend and that place looked ace. sad

Any other suggestions for decent hotels by the sea in that part of the world?

Re: whitby

Just looked at the website. I was thinking of that place. We ate in their last time we were there. Good place. Will bear it in mind for next stay.

Re: whitby

We stayed at the Shepherd's Purse a while back. Nice enough room and well placed. Nothing fancy, bit 'earth mother' but worth a look.
If you don't mind being inland, Grinkle Park is standard De Vere stuff but in a nice building, quiet with a proper billiard room and nice grounds and they give rooms away these days. Saltburn just down the road and all the usual haunts in easy reach.

Re: whitby

Get to Staithes, proper Northern holiday gaff.

Re: whitby

Nah its by the sea. The boss has spoken. The flights to Spain are fucking silly prices for half term, so she wants to head up North instead. But the rules keep changing... currently its sea view is mandatory. roll

Seahouses. When we were kids no bugger went. Great place mind. Think there are a few houses etc to rent but suspect you'll struggle to find one at short notice.

Re: whitby

Robon Hood's Bay is ace - massive breakfasts in The Dolphin pub and fine walks on the cliff

Robin hood's Bay is like Vegas compared to Staithes. If you do go to Robin-hood's bay watch for the currents. Tide used to come in unmercifully fast and at odd angles. Mind the kids.

Re: whitby

Whitby is brilliant, especially Runswick Bay and Sandsend. Breathtaking, some of it. I keep going back. Love it.

Re: whitby

My first summer holiday up from London that I can recall was Whitby, 1970? Just great, so I always head back when I can. Remember collecting jet from either there or Robin's Hood Bay.

Struggling badly. Ended up booking Hotel 53 in York (yeah, I know its by the sea), now been told to cancel as it doesn't have aircon in the bedrooms and has a noisy pub opposite.

Finding things to do isn't the problem its finding an 'acceptable' place to stay at this late stage at an acceptable budget the boss will sign off on.

I'd rather drive to Spain, but she won't sign off on it for a week.
