Ranking Roger was with the Beat who were great.

First UB40 album was great, second ok, but after that the plummet into Red red whine (the emphasis being on whine) was disgraceful. Rarely have a band with so much cred turned into such a bag of shite.

Doesn't Paul McCartney's son look like an extra in the Rover's Return in 1975? Doesn't he though?

Re: Musical Mysteries

UB40 ? The Status Quo of reggae?

They maintained a standard in keeping with 80s chart music.

Aren't (or weren't) UB40 the biggest-selling musical act in Jamaica?

That will be Jim Reeves, wouldn't it?

Re: Musical Mysteries

UB40 The Sound Of My Youth. I fucking love 'em. I love the first two albums, the dub versions, the Labour of Love albums first two anyway, I Think It's Going To Rain Today being the best.

Red Red Wine I fucking love. It's the sound of Sunday afternoons in the Strega, it's Rockys, It's East Street, it's bad beer and dogy birds and fights in taxi ranks and a curry on the way home. It's Blackpool weekend. I love Red Red Wine it's so bad its good.

Last UB40 record I bought - 12 inch is great

Re: Musical Mysteries

Just had UB40's first album on, it's outstanding. At what point did one of them turn to the rest of the band and ask 'What have we become?'

I'm guessing just before they went onstage, Llandudno, 1993.

Call me up in dreamland. Radio to me man.
