Re: Cranked Up Really High

Did my 2 nd audax today 110k. Some real killer hills out round the Forest of Dean. It was 1.8k of climbing and apparently was aa graded whatever that means? but then some cracking country side out Ledbury and the weather was nice. Sore legs at the mo tho!

Re: Cranked Up Really High

Did 95k today, one nasty hill, several other hills that weren´t that bad.  Pootled along at my mate´s pace so was a leisurely four and a half hours. Lovely countryside, should have set off earlier to avoid the searing heat in the last hour.

I might do Halifax to Scarborough next time I´m back, though i´d hop on the train home.

Re: Cranked Up Really High

Proper little cycling club on here. OMJ WHeelers? We need some shirts making.

How I spent my Sunday....

Weather was brutal. Soaked to the scruds by the end of it. Great place to ride but a gets 'interesting' when the rock gets wet.
Really enjoying being involved in the Brownbacks Racing series. Anyone on here with a MTB that wants a brilliant day out should sign up. The Have A Go Hero class is a perfect introduction into racing. Nothing to be scared of and a really good test of your skills and fitness. The weather isn't always like it was yesterday!

Great ride with Foxy this morning.
Canal to M'royd and then up and down Cragg Vale (bit of recon for the pro teams for Le Tour obviously). Bit of a downer on the way back when, tootling along the canal, my rear tyre blew up. Luckily a mate came and hot me home (I take tubes, pump etc...I don't take spare tyres!).

Ive just got a new Fuji Nevada 29 1.3D and would be happy to join any OMJers on some early Sunday morning jaunts. mI'm far from fit though so I don't want to hold anyone up if they are into serious excercise.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

Been helping organise the Brownbacks Hope XC Race Series this year. First race was on Sunday. Been a real laugh. I've been doing the 'blog'

Sunday was an early start, up at 5am. Beautiful day and a really good race.
Fantastic place to race mountain bikes.

Doubt I could do it once.

It's the climb that inspired all the spin stuff and the sessions I'm doing. It's a bastard.

I went to Lee Quarry with the bloke that's writing the sessions for me. We watched a bloke on a Santa Cruz Superlight fly up it. I said I want to be able to climb like that. Now I'm getting coaching/plans people pay £100 a month for! Not what you know....

The surface is a bastard. Loads of loose rock, very uneven and it throws your front wheel all over. Makes getting a good rhythm difficult. Saw some good riders lose it on technique.

Re: Cranked Up Really High

3rd Audax done this morning 100k. It was called the monmouth meander. Meander, my arse it was up and down for a good half of it. My legs cramped bad style after 70, & again at 80. So I got off and walked, it hurt like god knows. anyway despite all this I beat my previous time for 100k by 20minutes & I did 2/3rds on me tod so I had to follow the sheet for the first time & I didnt get lost! So I am pretty chuffed.

But for the 200k in Sept I need to get some miles in & strengthen them as I was hurting towards the end.

Re: Cranked Up Really High

Did my commute to work on the tow path on Friday - year since I tried it. Keighley to Leeds and back 62k round trip. Loved it first thing in the morning - it's all down hill too, but a killer coming back. Knees knackered and with the sun sapping n' slowin' me down to a sludge it wasn't any fun. Somehow got up five rise locks and then called in at a mates for a cuppa and a massive bag of green before sticking the buds in and firing up some banging Public Enemy to get the rotors turning for the last stretch. Too many dogs and meandering bums in the way too, but just felt battered. Been out the saddle too long. Some chaffing from the lycra too. Will deffo get the train back next time tho.

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French p*rn.

I did 20k around St Aidens nature reserve this morning.  Felt fucking ace afterwards.

Re: Cranked Up Really High

You should try some trails Reg. Doesn't have to be crazy. No substitute for finding a section of trail and riding it over and over again. You'll be amazed at what you're doing after half a day or so.

Re: Cranked Up Really High

Sessions on the spin continue.
Hard, hard work. Sticking to the 'regime' religiously though and it's working. Never worked so hard but a fantastic feeling when you finish.
Riding here on Saturday

And no, I won't be that quick....or wearing my pyjamas for that matter.

The lad is the son of Ed Oxley, guy I've done the courses with. Have a 1-2-1 day booked with Ed in August. Not cheap but can't wait.  A day around Hebden getting better and better with the 'beard'...
