Topic: pubs closing

out fishing other day and the topic of best pubs in areas came up.

Morley= joe Johnsons, albion, rock,
Burley= little park, newlands, Queens
East End Park = only hope that's any good now
Seacroft =Lion and Lamb, wilsons, sovereign, pathfinder
Hunslet= station, sun inn
Holbeck = nearly all of them
Pudsey= cant believe park and junction shut down

shame as these places were great.

Re: pubs closing

Our lot got done by the Boylans outside Lion and Lamb one Sunday night. I could never be bothered with the walk up so, thankfully, missed it. Station was a good drink. Queens, hardest rugby team this side of Manly. Like fucking Slap Shot on a pitch. Pathfinder was a laugh, good discos in there.

Re: pubs closing

I liked the wilsons, good laugh in there and a disco.

In Wakefield;

Clothiers, Old Globe, Wakefield Arms, Primrose Tavern, Cliffe Tree, Blue Light, Jockey, Fleece, Shakespeare...and they're just the ones that sold Tetley's...

Re: pubs closing

Cherry Tree and Plasterers were a laugh down Burmantofts. Fountain was a good pub as well.

The Gipton was always and alright drink (wasn't on the Gipton which helped)

Re: pubs closing

They were that hard three of em just watched. Gipton was sound, good for a Sunday dinner with the Mrs. Cherry Tree could be lively.

Re: pubs closing

What was the Gipton pub with like a huge cricket pitch outside. Somewhere off York Road?

Re: pubs closing

Could be.

Called in one Sunday mid 90's before a match. Received a stern reception to say the least.

Re: pubs closing

Sound like, the ones further in didn't have much ..

And don't feel picked on, you had to pick your pub back then round there. We never went east of York Rd unless you were with lads from round there. A bit of mixing cos Gipton got moved into Cross Green catchment when they shut Coldcoates senior meant it wasn't that bad, but...

Their or Foxwood, some fucking choice that.

Re: pubs closing

Cricketers in Seacroft was always odd. First line around the green are old 17th century cottages, an imposing church and a feeling of idyllic English village green with cricket pitch. Then you look one row beyond and see the architectural wonder that is Seacroft estate. Used to go in regular mid 80's mostly at lunchtimes as I worked up there. Just before the arse fell out of the whole area. It was sound then.

Re: pubs closing

Now a lot brighter and airy, both rooms opened up, big selection of beers. Only been once recently but I'd imagine it'll get a lot busier than previous. They've spent a good chunk on it by the look of things.

They have an acoustic night on Fridays by all accounts. Not entirely sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Re: pubs closing

Welcomb at Tinshill, latterly Bedford Arms. People used to come from all over Yorkshire to it in late 60's, early 70's. Proper community pub in later life and rough as fuck.
