Topic: Free Anti Virus

My Norton has run out but I remember seeing a post about free anti virus you can download (don't know if it was on here) but are these sites that offer it ok or do they just take you to one of them sites that want money to fix the virus they end uploading on to your computer?

Re: Free Anti Virus

What version of windows? If its 8 then windows defender is packaged as part of it - you have to uninstall norton and turn it on in the control panel as its will have been switched off. Same for the firewall.

If its 7 http://filehippo.com/download_windows_defender/ or vista or XP then here http://filehippo.com/download_security_essentials/

add in malwarebytes http://filehippo.com/download_malwareby … i_malware/ and you're sorted for free

Re: Free Anti Virus

Microsofts own windows defender is OK.  But having said that companies always use the paid solutions.  Surely if the free ones were as good then businesses would use them.

You pays your money. So far I guess I've been lucky in that what defender missed, malwarebytes picked up. Just hasn't got all the bells and whistle shit you pay form. The labs that produce defender have some seriously gifted pointy heads and given they all copy one anothers algo's you're probably no more than a day or two behind the pay for ones.
