Re: Any Scooterists on OMJ?

I see the Scomadi was mentioned earlier in this post.  They are British designed but not British made. Originally I think some were built here but then the manufacture was transferred to China. That agreement came to an end and they are now made in Thailand.
While I think they are the best looking of any of the twist & go scooters I have noticed that lots of them are up for re-sale after being owned for about six months & quite a lot seem to have electrical problems. They are also made of plastic and the 125's are pretty slow for a modern engine although I'm sure that if the 400cc model comes out, speed won't be an issue.
Personally , until I can't physically ride a classic Lambretta anymore I will never own an auto as I find them boring to ride. Even lads I know that have owned autos agree with that but the GTS especially are very quick & reliable.

In the end it all depends what you want from your scooter.

Like you mate I have only ever had Italian geared machines.  3 Vespas nearly 30 years.  The Vespa gearing is second nature to me and I find it easy, I would no doubt find a twist and go boring too.  Alas though, we converted our garage and I could not keep a steel scoot outside so I am considering a plastic body.  Neco Abruzzi and Scomadi being the best looking of the bunch in my view.  I can pick up a Scomadi for under a grand and a half I reckon.  I take on board what you are saying about electrics and I did notice there were quite a few for sale so there's got to be a cautionary tale in that too.

I reckon I could enjoy one for a year and punt it on without losing much money.  Who knows, I don't have Lambo money to leave it out in the rain.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

A, that's interesting about the Scomadi. Saw one in the flesh recently and it looked great, have to say.

Re: Any Scooterists on OMJ?

Until I ride mine I'm not sure what's in it engine wise. It's got electronic ignition so possibly bored out to a 175. Every 150 I had before I made in to a 175.

I think eventually though I will fit a 185 imola kit or a ts1. Mates of mine in the past had the imolas on and they were quick as fuck. I'm not arsed about going fast but it's hilly round here and the power is definitely a plus.

Print only at the moment, but they sometimes stick them online after a couple of weeks. Will let you know if/when it does (wouldn't get too excited...)

The GT I have is the vintage model with weird old handlebars. Its very quick, especially in the city ( too much even) had it on the highway doing 120, which isnt smart big_smile  and reliable apart from the wobble.... costs me $6 canadian to fill it up.
To be honest I'm not using it enough to justify it these days and the cash would be better spent.

Just read the article by Fulmine on a Facebook page : Scooter lab U.K or SLUK for those interested. A good read.
For my part , having owned both marques the Lambretta wins , better looking , a better ride and they sound better too.

Nice one.  Very interesting piece.  Your picture editor didn't do Lambrettas any favours with that LD.

Only sx150 on eBay that's as good is on at £6500. Honestly Reggie it's pristine...even behind the panels.

I was told it was an sx200 when I bought it so thought I'd really done my job.. ten grandsworth if it was that in this condition.. anyway, screwed the cunt  over.. he thinks there's more money and something else coming his way... there isn't.

Ha ha.  Even better.  Hope you got the log book.

Jesus, just checked prices, even Spanish ones that are fucked are £5k. There's replicas at nearly £5k and Indian fakes for over £2k.

Re: Any Scooterists on OMJ?

Seriously, this lad used to be my best mate.. I've saved his skin a couple of times, hid him from the police, took a big rap myself on his behalf, several things that best mates do.. then he put me in a lot of danger several years ago, but because of the circumstances and not wanting my girlfriend or family to know at the time I had to let it ride.. had to stop myself taking revenge a few times and tried to bury it.. he tried to talk to me two months ago and it didn't end too well for him. The scooter then came up in negotiations. I have the scooter, log book and keys..

Now get a specialist automotive photographer to take some some great shots of it (you will get the money and the rest). Somewhere up near Shipley Glen or wherever is near you.
