Topic: Favourite LPs of 2014 (so far)

My favourite 10 LPs of 2014 in no particular order:

Hookworms - The Hum
Jungle - Jungle
Real Estate - Atlas
Juan Maclean - In A Dream
Childhood - Lacuna
Roddy Frame - Seven Dials
Cherry Ghost - Herd Runners
The Phantom Band - Strange Friend
Temples - Sun Structures
Jimi Goodwin - Odludek

LP I've probably played the most in 2014 is one released last year, Darkside - Psychic which I only got this year.

You can add Gruff Rhys' American Interior to the above.

Re: Favourite LPs of 2014 (so far)

I took the Juan Maclean album back to the shop and asked for a refund. Dissappointing as I like what they've done in the past.

Future Islands - Singles
Yasiin Gaye - The Departure
De la Soul x Fela Kuti
War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream ( bit Dire Straits/ Springsteen … but really good album)
Blood Orange - Cupid Deluxe
Beck - Morning Phase
Mogwai - Rave Tapes

I'll chuck in the Bunnymen as I actually bought it this year …

Kendrick Lamarr - Good kid Mad City - 2013 but played it to death this year

TT, if you like Temples, look out for Blossoms, band from Stockport, who are similar.

American Interior and Herd Runners. Jimmi Goodwin would do well to get back with the other two. Interesring album but not one I'd play right through too often. War On Drugs how do they have so many fooled? Poor year for music. Thank God for Kid Wave.

The single is probably one of the best this year.

Cuts, War on Drugs ? I listen to it, hear all the influences, the stolen riffs… but -  It just works…

It works like a Phil Collins album.

Get some Parquet Courts down your ears. Only heard them yesterday.

yikes The fact bands like them are more than a pub tribute band shows how shite most of it is these days. Add in the fact that most 'albums of the year' seem to be by bands that have being going for years... the world has gone xfactor and Led Zep are hip again.

God save us.

Easily best of 2014. Anger, attitude, great wordplay and skillful swearing. What more could you want? Punk in it's purest form.

I'll chuck in these as well.

PSB - Inform, Educate, Entertain
The Amazing Snakeheads - Amphetamine Ballads
The New Mendicants - Into the Lime
Joanna Gruesome - Weird Sister (2013 really but I didn't find it until 2014), ditto Goldfrapp - Tales of us
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the sky away

Plus a whole rake of old stuff, from Bobby Womack's Bravest Man to Buddy Rich's original of the Beat goes on. Thank you radio 6. Where would we be without you?

And odd tracks old and new that I'd never heard before such as The Handsome Family - Far From any Road, De Vaughn Williams - Be thankful for you've got, Iyeoka - Simply Falling, Hercules & Love Affair - Blind, Frankie Knuckles remix and many more.

Christ, The Amazing Snakeheads! I've played it so much and am so familiar with it that I thought I'd had it for longer - a breath of fresh air! (All be it tainted with cheap whiskey, Tenants lager and Juicy Fruit chewing gum).

The insurgency began.................and you missed it.

I really wanted to like the snakeheads album but I really can't get to grips with it all. Only like here it comes again. Great track that

Honey The Hippie - Peace of Mind
Philly Regrooved 3 - Tom Moulton mixes. Actually 2013, but has given a lot of pleasure this year.
