Also.... If Russia is so good at shooting down missiles, why didn't it shoot down the ones that Israel fired the other night and why did they not even know who fired them?
The intercepted 5 of the 8 fired & they came from two F15's which had flown out into the med & then back over lebanon. They initially thought that they were US coming off warships. That's with Syria's normal defense systems. The russian stuff is meant to be the dogs bollocks, and for whatever reason has only been turned on occasionally as a warning and not fired.
The S-400 was first deployed to Syria in 2015, and with its 248 mile range it is capable of providing an air cover umbrella across the majority of Syria. It is capable of shooting down up to 80 targets simultaneously and is said to be able to travel more than 10,000mph.
The 9M96E2 is one of the jewels of the S-400 system. It flies at Mach 15 (around 5,000 meters per second or 18,500 kph), it can engage targets as low as 5 meters off the ground, and it can maneuver pulling up to 20 Gs (a human can withstand no more than 9 Gs with special pressure suits and helmets and for only a few seconds). It is designed to knock out penetrating aircraft and missiles flying “off the deck” or just above ground and neutralize cruise missiles.
