Topic: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Manchester

What a performance. Cave's never been better and he's got a mighty back catalogue to dip into.

Highlights were Stagger Lee, Red Right Hand and following an orchestrated and dignified stage invasion, Push the sky away.

Utterly ace...

...apart from the venue. First ever arena gig; hope it's my last.  Lighting, sound, visuals, all spot on, but the setting was distracting. From the airport-style security access (I know, I know) to the cavernous arena and the loud-mouthed clown behind me, from whom there was no escape, it just felt wrong.

Mate was telling me about this gig on the train this morning. Said he was on fire and its the best gig he's seen at that venue. Shit venue to project really intense, intimate and personal music to but said he managed it. Wish I'd have gone.

Probably best gig I've seen there was the charlatans in 2001 when they were touring Wonderland and Tim was pretending to be Curtis   Mayfield. Great atmosphere.

I saw them on that tour at the leadmill.  Seem to think it was a secret gig
