Shit of the year - went to an all you can Chinese buffet this week and tried everything. Gave birth to a foot long anaconda the next morning. It wouldn't flush so had to break it up with a chop stick from the kitchen draw. Had to throw the other chopstick away with the shitty one cos what use is a single chopstick?

In case you ever went to another 'all you can eat' chinese buffet? Short termism; in future you'll either have to use another single implement that forms part of a pair & discard the pair or use your hands, and human shit is bugger to get out from under your finger nails.

Beer - Evil Twin's Sumo In A Sidecar (Apricot IPA)
Book - Dodgers by Bill Beverley
TV - The Night Of...
Film - Trumbo
Best Album - Dave East 'Paranoia - A True Story'
Best Track - Rick Ross 'Idols Become Rivals'
Best find - Nino Ferrer 'Looking For You'
Best Music Event - Black Thought's Freestyle for Flex on Hot 97 (came out yesterday and overtook Loaded Lux's on the same show)
Best Gig - HMHB The Welly, Hull
Sporting Highlight - Watching The Shaymen with my daughter
Sporting Event - Froome's Salbutamol reading, this one will run and run
Website - Ruin Your Day (battle rap site I support through Patreon)
Clothing - Puma Suede in green
Personal highlight - The Mrs and the kids (obvious but true), professionally I was leading counsel with a junior for the first time. Special mention for the kids at Huddersfield New College who I mentored in the Bar Mock Trial Competition. Our young people are much-maligned, these were an amazing bunch of kids from diverse backgrounds who easily restored my faith in the future. No silver spoons but real talent and drive.
Best night - Election 2017, back being more active in the local party since JC's leadership, started that night thinking I'd need a gun or maybe just Prozac and a cave to retire to, we didn't win but fuck me was it fun seeing some fuckers eat their words

Hard to do these, I've already thought of a couple of albums I could have chosen over Dave East. Listened to so much more hip hop this year.

Re: End of year best of review

Track of the year - French press- rolling blackouts cf ...what a song and it stands above a lot of stiff competition

Album - adios senor pussycat... beautiful piece of work crafted with love, conviction and quality from all involved and not just Mick. Brutslism by idols runs close.. very close...great album. Third runner up would be Pete perrett...stirring stuff

Gig - tough to call as usual as I've done a few again... rolling blackouts are outstanding live and probably just nip it. The brudenell gig was fantastic. Whitney at the same venue were mesmerising and I could have watched them all night. The Michael head album launch at Parr st was a triumph... young pup Derry band touts were just like I hoped in Manchester and if you haven't seen idols yet then you're missing out... saw them twice and it's summat else

Upcoming band - shame.. tick all the boxes I like

Fight of the year -  probably degale  v jack

Book - a crafty cigarette.... very easy quick read but just reminded me so much of my youth and everything the jam meant to me

Film - only seen a couple I think... had to check on the film section here... seems I've seen two and kajaki was the best of those.

Tv - Ozark

Clothing - pretty green button up trench coat in navy... sharp as fuck...and I've actually bought two nice boating blazers this year.. one from adaptor clothing in a brown pin stripe and one from jump the gun in blue  ..also sharp as fuck without looking like a mod if that makes sense... subtle mod look!

Life event - meeting my girlfriend ...after trying a few...shes just mint. A lady, a true lady, seems genuinely lovely and so far me and her are deliriously happy with each other... I'm made up

Next year I'm just hoping for more of the same...steady carry on and keep on loving life... travel , love, music and friends

Biggest thing I'm hoping for is Leeds to get it's first world boxing champion... Selby is great but I'm hoping if we can get him to elland road josh can just get the verdict.

Oh yeah and Nicola Adams could get a title and im thinking Jack bateson is the one to watch (along with Josh Kelly and Conor benn)

All about the fam innit.

Michael Rother with Wire at Brudnell was amazing.

Sarajevo and Mostar was really interesting.

Agree with Trav, kids are amazing. The footy team I'm involved with are teaching me to be more patient and realise football teams and clubs are as much about socialisation as playing football.

Left my job and gone it alone with a few others. Us vs the big corporates. Loving work again.

Dont read books anymore.

Come back Cuts you perplexing malcontent.

Highlights----

Getting a dog.

Individual moment - as i said at the time, I was fistpumping like Denis Taylor on drugs when news came through of exit polls.

other highlights, Men's Handball World Championships last January, The Ladies Rugby World Cup. The Ladies Handball World Championship.

Lowlight, puts loads of work into modelling the Curling World Cup, didn't get it right, not too costly but put loads of effort into it for nowt.

That's what the theory is and should be but you get drawn into wanting to win. The parents do, the kids do everyone does. It's like a competitive drug that sneaks up on you. It' wrong and now we've had a few hidings I realise that the kids still turn up to training. And want to play in matches. Some of them have pretty chaotic lives and this is one of the constants for them for years.

I've spoken to a ex Man City kids and UEFA B coach at length about the dichotomy of winning kids football and he's been instrumental in me changing my approach. Therefore I'm 100% dedicated to making it more social and building a fun team aspect to it all. I'm enjoying it more also. Training is still geared around passing and moving over everything else. But we're mixing it up with fitness including boxing, muay thai and assault courses.

New lad tuns up on our estate - executive from Stoke. White Audi natch.

Becomes the other half of a coaching duo, wanting to make his mark.

Sacked off my friend's son for being overweight. He's now been picked up by city and switched positions. But the worst thing he did, and he's never even fucking thought about it, is to 'let go' a young lad who's Mum died of cancer a month or so previously.

The last thing that lad needed was another tent post popping out.

I get introduced to him but keep my distance. He's overly friendly but I don't hear him.

When I get him on his own, it will be explained to him.

There's no stoke without fire...

Well for fucks sake Mick.

Michael head and the red elastic band at the invisible wind factory last night was absolutely unbieveable. Talk about a man and band flexing their muscle to all... and all was a lot of people. Arrived at 8 30 to queues round the block.. big warehouse type venue was rammed and buzzing.. electrifying and has ended up being my gig of the year

From falling off the stage at the brink to last night is some journey

They have a mini album, 7 tracks called talk tight  I'll have a search for you. I've got it on vinyl.  If it's got a download code I'll burn you a CD off if you want. Other one they have is the French press ep.  I've got that on cd.. same goes as above, don't mind burning you a copy
