Topic: Steve Jones - Lonely Boy

One of the most honest books I have ever read. How do I know he`s honest, he admits he has been a right cunt. From shagging his mates girlfriends, to being a peeping Tom and an out and out thief.

His childhood is very dark and is one of abandonment and sexual abuse, to being taken in by Westwood and McLaren, forming the Pistols with his school mate Paul Cooke and ending up a heroin addict, an addict to everything in fact, sex, weed and booze.

Unlike Albertine (who he once offered to go down on when she didn`t want to blow him) he didn`t have a lot of time for Sid Vicious, who he claims couldn`t play and was so bad, Jones played both lead guitar and bass on The Bollocks, although Sid had hepatitis and was in hospital, the only album track he appears on is Bodies and even then Jones also played on it.

His visit to Rio for the Biggs episode is covered as is his new life in the US which was far from plain sailing.

Even today he finds Lydon very hard work and I have to say this book had me watch the Grundy interview again on Youtube as well as look up the US porn star Ginger who gave him a blow job in the toilets in Rehab.

Might not be a classy read, but well worth it.

Cheers for the heads up. Going to buy it now. Always liked Jones, seemed like he knew what a load of bollocks so much of The Pistols circus was. And he's a fucking brilliant guitar player. Watch the Classic Albums programme on Never Mind The Bollocks, I never realised he did that whole octave thing. That guitar sound on EMI is fucking mint.

She’s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I’m just another lackey, but I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki...

Funny you should mention that, he despises the whole circus thing and what it became.
I still have "They`ll always be an England" recorded at Brixton, where Lydon forgets the words on EMI, brilliant guitar playing.

Re: Steve Jones - Lonely Boy

About half way through. Brutally honest in places. Hard not to like him despite him being a cunt at times. But then again, aren't we all.
I was too young to know them when they first came out. I seem to remember being aware of them around '79 or '80. My brother and his mate had some records and I got a couple of singles, Anarchy In The Uk from a stall on the market.
My Mum and her mate went to X Clothes and got me a Pistols t-shirt. They asked my Mum's mate if she'd 'like a sit down'. I was fascinated by them as a band then. I used to stare at the pictures on The Great Rock and Roll Swindle cover and some of the singles and desperately want to see the actual film. Soldierant (miss his posts on here) was so lucky to see so much of it all back then. We got Discharge and The Exploited....
Cheers again for the heads up Zico.

.

It would be great if they were all that honest.

About 3/4 through Matlocks and you know Jones, is the real deal.

Viv Albertine`s is worth a read TB, you can pass it onto your wife afterwards, as it`s a woman`s book with rock/punk music.
Sound lass, had a tough time too.

By the way TB after you`ve read it put Joney`s jukebox into YouTube some excellent interviews

Watch these after

Don`t think Steve has ever done a diversity and e-learning package

Ironically I think Cook is married to a black woman.

I bought Albertine's at the same time. Next on the list. Fucked Fire and Fury off after four or five chapters and felt a schmuck for buying into the hype....
