Topic: Drunken bakers

I have asked Santa for this.

Easily the best thing in Viz these days - Alongside male Online.

Funny?  It's depressing as fuck.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

Superb book. Bleaker than Beckett.

It's superbly written but like you say it's bleak as fuck. Possibly the best observed writing about alcoholism ever.  The sheer single minded persuit of booze whilst maintaining a thin pretence of a functioning life.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

I think his stuff is so observant.  Bright Families, Male Online and the incredible Drunken Bakers.

Funny - in parts and as dark as fuck.  I like dark.

Read this in a few days.

Superb.  A great observation of the modern decline, neoliberalism rolled into booze.

Really made me think about my relationship with alcohol as well.

I think this is why I'm very uncomfortable with it?  Who wants to hear the truth right?  Erm....

It's obviously well written, it's also very personal, you can tell that, it's that stark.  I never really thought it fit with Viz either, but would it fit anywhere other than standalone?

Re: Drunken bakers

I think it sits with viz as it has some very dark humour in it.  As the comic strip.

As a novel it stands alone.  I don't think it will go anywhere else as it has told the story, so to speak.  Unless he kills them off, or one of them.

But the drink - I think I have some kind of dependency.  Do I really need to get Saturday night drunk twice a week every week?

Im sure it's grimly enjoyable but I'm not sure I want to endure the self analysis it would undoubtedly lead to.

Probably one for the resident addicts thread but yeah.  My lack of off switch and inability to recognise when I'm beyond the point of reasonable control bothers me greatly.  But maybe I worry too much?

Ha ha ha - no - that is my quandary.  I hit that point and all care and abandon goes out the window.

Smoke tabs, call cunts cunts, eat shit food and awake feeling awful and a day glued to the sofa.

I'm done.  Self restraint is the future.  Wish me luck.

Good luck mate.  The fact you see it is the biggest hurdle I suspect.
