Topic: Great Albums You've 'Rediscovered'

Following recent publicity to promote their forthcoming new LP, been listening to Spiritualised's "Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating In Space" alot - classic.

Must be one of the most underated LPs of the 1990s.

I fucking love that album. I'd never really heard much by them before and then heard the title track in a session on Radio 1. It still had Elvis mixed on it doing 'Can't help Falling In Love with You' which got removed for the album for legal reasons. I bought it the day I came out in a blister pack designed like a big pill. Fantastic stuff. Saw them at Leeds Poly about 99, really loud, great light show.

Site stalwart.

Re: Great Albums You've 'Rediscovered'

Did anyone buy/steal an album when they were young but when you put it on you realised it was shit - then put it on years later and find your taste has completely changed?

Or perhaps it was the other way round?

I remember hating this when i was younger:

But now i think it's cool

Funny that because I always thought it was one of the most overated. 'I think I'm in love' is quality though...

i used to play the "video" album of infected in the smithy all the time... sublime.

and electric is great too.. maybe a little bit too "rock by the numbers", hence LOVE wins.

Re: Great Albums You've 'Rediscovered'

Strangely, over the weekend I've been listening to this slice of brilliance for the first time in ages:

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s3137.jpg

April must be 'I heart 1985' in Casa Stapleton.

What a great album. Reminded me tonight, listening as I ironed, of Bowie's 'Low' - both have an A side chock-full of genius left-field pop and a B side that's rather different and slightly more involving. Both albums probably wouldn't offer the same experience on cd.

Reading today's posts got me thinking about 1985 - some sort of 'annus mirabilis' for quality long players?

'A secret wish'
'Hounds of love'
'Parade' - Prince
'Don't stand me down' - Dexy's Midnight Runners
'Stella' - Yello

...

Oh, and The Cult, natch. wink

I haven't felt this good for an hour

Re: Great Albums You've 'Rediscovered'

Some great shouts here. If you get chance to catch Lloyd Cole doing his solo acoustic stuff do so its brilliant. Plays a lot from Rattlesnakes and the stripped back  songs are even more poignant. If you aren’t inconspicuously wiping away a tear you are trying too hard not to look gay.

Spent three years putting my vinyl on Mini Disc before I Pod came out. Am I putting it all on I Pod?. Am I fuck. Often get back to old albums and re discovering their brilliance. Had The Triffids Born Sandy Devotional last night. Awesome

Brilliant not stopped listening to that.

Kevin Stapleton - Stella also fantastic only had it on tape so I can't dig it out and if you get Low that's been re-mastered it's OK.

Played with these a few times but this doesn't capture how good they were live, they were fantastic:

So I'd like to hear these two again:

Re: Great Albums You've 'Rediscovered'

It's not so much whether Low has been remastered (could I tell?) more the fact that it is a LP - it has an A side and a B side. They are totally different in style and I rarely play one side followed by t'other - I'll put on the 'pop' side or the 'Eno' side depending on mood. It wouldn't seem right having them follow each other on a CD was what I was trying to say.

If you like I can lob some Stella mp3s your way.

Ahhh I see. Have you got Heroes? I used to follow B side of one with B side of the other.

Where's that dog thread gone? There's a proper barking dog somewhere in the middle of all that.

Yeh some Stells mp3s would be much appreciated.
