Topic: Christmas Dinner. Where? When? What?

You all going round your mums for a pre Queens speech slice of turkey and assorted Aunt Bessie goodies, sitting atop the emergency chairs listening to the NOW 68 compilation?
Or a Nigella-esque post C4 alternative Queens speech no kids allowed candle lit frankincense and myrhh stuffed nine bird roast listening to Sade's Greatest Hits?

Mmm... Can smell the sprouts already.

Choice of Ireland, New York or Featherstone. Can't be arsed with any of them.

He spent all night staring down at the lights of LS. Wondering if he could ever go home.

Re: Christmas Dinner. Where? When? What?

Sprouts could be missing from traditional Christmas dinners this year, as farmers warn of a looming national shortage.
Growers say water-logged fields and high winds have left them struggling to harvest enough of the crop to satisfy the nation's appetite.

The vegetable - which is loved and loathed in equal measures - is also under threat from an in increase in disease and the number of slugs.

thank god for that

Back to Beeston for me and something called a Brunch whatever that entails. It does me that I can get back home at a reasonable hour, put my feet up and play with the kids toys.

Our house,no in-laws just me and the wife and kids. Bacon sarnies for brekkie, turkey and pigs in blankets later. Doing what we want when we want for a change. smile

Throw those curtains wide, just one day like this a year would see me right.

Re: Christmas Dinner. Where? When? What?

Last year I was given a Jamie Oliver dvd on how to make a full Christmas Dinner with minumum hassle. I followed it to the letter and did it what it said on the tin. So this year I shall be repeating the exercise, but might be forgoing the purple sprouting broccoli in anchovy butter... talking of anchovys I had one of those vegetablearian people over for dinner the other week. Cooked her a spinach & ricotta canelloni, but stuck a couple of anchovies in the creme fraich sauce topping - forgetting they were living dead things. Ten minutes in and she's commenting on how tasty it is, but she's feeling a bit queazy.  After raising much nerve I confessed the following day that I had inadvertantly fed her a live being. Thankfully she was fine about it. Good job i didn't mention the cows hoof in her coffee....

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French p*rn.

Gordon Ramsey's cooking mine, or rather he's paying someone to cook it for me and I'm in turn paying them for cooking it. I'm sure the money will work it's way back to Ramsey eventually.

Re: Christmas Dinner. Where? When? What?

I'll be doing the cooking.  In laws round with attached tribes so I'll be cooking for 12+.  Will be up at 7-ish when the young one gets his presents, I'll cook breakfast for all and by the time I've washed that up it will be time to start on the dinner.

Two types of soup for starter - Carrot and Coriander.  Challote, parsnip and parmesan.  Put some pate on to.

Turkey crown, rib of beef and a dutch ham.  3 type of stuffing.  Sprouts done in butter, honey and balsamic vinegar.  Spuds (new, mashed and roast).  Pig in blankets.  probably every other vegetable known to mankind.

Christmas pud with brandy cream or single cream.  Stickey Toffee pudding and custard.  Ice cream for young uns.

If I'm off the waggon then it'll be a nice nutty and crisp chablis with the bird, a generous glass of port with my pudding and a nice red Rhone to relax with after, a single estate Chateuaneuf would hit the spot.

Eating tofu and hating it.

The good new is its not the wife cooking. The even better news is that we're going to a restaurant. And she's driving. big_smile
