Re: The Wire

Just started to watch The Wire, i have watched the first two episodes and at first i thought there was a lot going on and there were a lot of characters to keep up with. But at the end of the first one they all came together and it looks like it is gonna be a cracking series. I have heard it gets better!

Re: The Wire

Watched The Savages the other day (Philip Seymour Hoffman & Laura Linney, decent enough film, meant to be a dark comedy - less laughs that Pyschoville)

Anyway Chris (as in Chris & Snoop) is in it.

Troo Dat!

Is that the one where she goes into the hardware shop to buy the nail gun.

Something not right about a female baddie. It's like that bird of tell no one, she makes Snoop look like Annie.

Took me til about half way through the series to realise she was a lass.

When my mate mentioned 'she' when we were talking about it, I was pissed off with him, thinking he'd ruined some kind of Crying Game style revelation.

I thought Soop was a little lad. hmm

Just been reading up about her, she did time for murdering someone when she was 14. Met the bloke who plays Omar in a Baltimore club and he took her to the writers and got her a role.

Re: The Wire

Yeah, there's an interview with her on one of the dvds.

Bit of a mentalist it seems.

Reckon she's up there with that South African runner though and needs checking for meat and two veg.

Just starting the full thing nose to tail. Got to be done, there's a wire shaped whole in my life.

Re: The Wire

I've started the whole five seasons all over again. And read a big fuck off book about it. It's become a rather unhealthy obsession.

It has to be said though, it is one of the rare occasions when all the hyperbole is justified.

Re: The Wire

it's still not taken off though. even after all the media hype which to be fair has been a bit handpicked. charlie brooker etc..

what's the book?

Re: The Wire

The Wire - Truth Be Told by Rafael Alvarez i'm guessing,  its the one i've got  (tho' the granuiad are punting one called Re-Up). Best bit of info i've found out so far was The Deacon was the number 1 drug dealer in Baltimore in the 70/80's!!!!

Takes a bit to get into the first series, but it's worth it, stick with it.

Second is a belter.

Still think The Sopranos is much better though, I don't think there'd be a Wire without it.

That's the feller. The interview of David Simon by Nick Hornby is good.

Re: The Wire

David Mills, one of the TV writers for The Wire, died last week of a brain aneurysm on the set of the new production Treme.

He did a lot of stuff with David Simon; Homicide, The Corner, The Wire, Treme.

He also worked on ER and NYPD Blue.

Some talent.

Re: The Wire

"The Corner" was a 6 part series on HBO about 10 years ago.  It was the precursor to the Wire, written by David Simon and Ed Burns (of the Wire) and is very good.  It's based on the true story of a junkie and his family in Baltimore.
