Topic: Dennis lehane. The Given Day.

Great historical epic. Usually a crime writer, but he crosses genres really well.
Set just after World war 1. Tells the story of 2 families,   Coughlins < irish immigrants, working in law enforcement > Laurances < main charactar on run from gangland slaying >.
Lehane doe's a great job, describing these characters + how their lives are shaped, by the political turmoil of the time. Expertly weaving into the story, real life people of the time. Eg Babe Ruth, Calvin Coolidge, + J. Hoover.  All in all, a great read.

Got more soul, than a sock with a hole.

I really like his PI duo set in Boston, thought they were much better than Mystic River. I notice he write The Wire sometimes now.

Cracking read this. Did the film ever see the light of day? Sam Raimi was meant to be making it.

She’s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I’m just another lackey, but I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki...

Re: Dennis lehane. The Given Day.

Cracking read indeed. I'm about halfway through it.

Some of the characters are a bit clichéd but the lad can write.  Historically informative too; I'd no idea about the post-WW
I flu pandemic.

So did it ever get made into a film?
