Queensbury now has a decent chippy.
It's not on the main Halifax Road but on the turn off near the co-op that leads to the Mountain district.
Good sized fish £2.20, lovely batter and decent chips. Very good along with Sammy Wests in Holmfield the best round here.

The Mermaid on Harehills lane is good, but not as good as it was painted to me. Fish [haddock] 7/10, chips 7/10. Disturbingly they do kebabs but it's always packed and not bad. Just under £4 for fish and chips from memory. Martins on the corner of brown lane east in Holbeck is consistently good if you can find it open. About £3.50 and the sneer from the woman behind the counter is free. Hungry now after tying that, might drive up to the Mermaid and give it another spin.

Went to Bryans for a sitdown the other week. Poor poor effort. 1/10

Years ago that place was the standard for a chippy. I went over there a few months ago to try and get some dinner before heading back south, got there at just after two and they'd shut the takeaway bit. Had a quick look in the sit down bit, didn't like it at all and after waiting for a few minutes for someone to come over to serve me gave up and left. Won't be going back.
The had scallops on the menu and it didn't have potato or batter. I mean times change, but...

Went to The Mermaid [Harehills] on Monday evening. Fish & chips £4.10, fish cooked to order but the chips had been sitting a long time. They are doing a lunchtime special till 3pm for medium fish, chips and mushy peas or a breadcake for £2.90.

The Miners chippy opposite the Miners pub in Morley top of the steps from the railway station, fish and chips £3.65 and the fishes are moby dicks with plenty of chips plus fried in lovely beef dripping, I sometimes treat myself to a special but these are fucking huge so I usually just have a half portion of chips to accompany ![]()
The spam fritters are top notch too.

I was in Whitby yesterday. The typical price for a bog standard take-away haddock and chips was a fiver, give or take a couple shillings.

Is George still running it? Mad Leeds fan.
My regular back when I lived over that way. Kingfisher further up was alright but never open.

There's loads of chippies where I am now and none of them stand out. Always try and get to Brett's before a Rhino's game, still quality stuff. I remember going as a kid when it still looked like someone's kitchen, couple of lads I was at school with worked at Bryan's, never eaten so many fish!!! Not been in for years.

Best one round there was Dib Lane. You even got to meet Leeds players as they wandered between the Fernville, William Hills and the chippy on their way back up Wetherby Road and home (why oh why did I always used to bump into Yorath and a pissed up Lorimer
). Chippy was was so popular he never opened after 9pm.

Too far to walk that, Mermaid was 200 yards.

We used to live just off Strathmore Drive before we moved to Easterly Rd and the mermaid was alright, but the one at the top of the hill opposite Luxor Road just before you headed down the hill to the Fforde was the best one round there. Think its gone now.

TBH Mermaid wasn't that special but it was spitting distance. I was trying to picture the one you were on about but kept seeing that Mr Chippy. Was it a traditional looking job up the hill from Delaney's?

Halifax is like a desert for good chippy's nowadays - if you are ever near Holmfield go to the one near the Shant, but other than that I'm struggling.

We'd not long moved in and went to Fryer Tuck's at Hipperholme. Without question the worst fish and chips ever served. The Alternative used to sell better!!!

Best chippy in Harehills, was the one up Harehills Road, where it meets the bottom of Conway Road where the old Trade X was. Run by a mustachioed chap called Gordon, if I remember rightly. Quality stuff right there.

Galleon? Opposite Featherstones the best butchers in the world ever?

What happened to Harpo's? It was Hero's by the time I left. There was another pizza place opened on the parade down from the Compton, you could buy 'membership cards'! Two for one on all pizzas from memory.

Don't recall the butchers Gore. Fish shop was right where that little park was on H. road. About 3 doors down from Brunos gentlemens barbers. My mate still get's his hair cut there + he lives in Morley. Silly cunt.
Le Galleon. Mmmm racking my brains now. You might be right.

Yep.
Was the chippie. Featherstones was opposite side of the road My uncle had the second car place a bit further down. Sold my old man an Austin 1100 with cardboard sills that fell off the first puddle he went through.
This one by the oakwood clock was sound as well
