Blinding gig.
Accompanied by half an orchestra, a gospel choir, 3 x guitarists, bass player, 2 x drummers, a keyboard player and Jason Pierce - the stage was pretty busy.
Played Ladies and Gentlemen front to back in its entirety, an absolute delight and pleasure.
Great light show and very loud, just as it should be.

I fully concur. Amazing level of performance. One of the best gigs i've been to in a long time. There must have been 30ish people on stage and the wall of sound that was produced was immense. The Spaceman doesn't look well though, although well enough to be his usual perfectionist self. A fair number of the great and good of the manchester music scene were in attendance.

Off to see this same thing tomorrow night at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, the whole Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Now Floating in Space album with orchestra and choir, can't fucking wait. Will be on the lookout for NY musos - bet Sonic Youth gang are there.

Mike did you see Spiritualized at The Apollo with the strings and choir? Great gig and the best venue I've been to in New York. Can't afford Friday night. Radio City's not cheap.

No, didn't know about the Apollo one, when was that? Always fancied going to the Apollo though, will get round to it one of these days, maybe Amateur Night. A mate got me the ticket for tonight, not sure how much I owe him, could be in for a shock.....

Ticket $54.00
Convenience Charge $10.85 - versus what, going to the box office and still getting charged a convenience fee?
Order Processing Fee $3.20 - the equivelent of the bloke in Jumbo turning around, reaching up andgetting a ticket out of a little box.
Only simpler. It's online, on a computer, nobody is doing anything.
Ticket Fast Delivery $2.50 - a fee for printing out your own ticket. Surely it should be a rebate. My ink. My paper. Ticketmaster not
printing anything.
Total $70.55
How would you rate your Ticketmaster experience?
Next time please use lube.

Well I enjoyed that very much. From the false start curtain to the, inevitable, Oh Happy Day ending. Got a seat down stairs - first time ever in the orchestra seating, I'm usually a balcony/cheapest ticket available man. Sat pretty central but far back. Still a good view and close to the mixing desk so, apart from the vocals at the beginning of Ladies And Gentlemen been a bit off the sound was great.
Have to say, I'm really into these playing an album gigs. You know what you're getting and it works well. The only other two I've seen are Brian Wilson Pet Sounds and Love Forever Changes. You can't really include a La's gig can you? Can you? Ladies And Gentlemen sits well with these two. It's worthy of the attention. It's a bit special.
Couple of things crossed my mind yesterday. What do you think the gospel choir members make of stuff like Electricity? And, why do so many people get up and go to the jacks during a gig they've paid a fair bit for and, presumably, want to see? Constant stream of women wobbling up and down the aisle in high heels.
Ladies And Gentlemen/I Can't help Falling In Love With You been an obvious high point, I thought Come Together was classic.
Don't know if it sold out but average the tickets out to $55s, low side average, 7500 seats. It's a serious chunk of change isn't it?

Yeah, last minute thing. Wife and kids on hols, I saw the preview in the Post in the morning and thought why not? I'm working like fuck at the minute so I thought a night out was in order. I thought it was great. Not going to compare it to the Apollo show because that was stripped down, think they called it Acoustic Mainlines, Choir Strings two guitars. Not sure which I liked both. I might be wrong but I think he did Let It Come Down with a full orchestra at St John The Divine years ago. Ladies And Gentlemen is such a great album though. Doing it like that is a great concept. Radio City is a bit of a special venue too isn't it? Beautiful place.
Got a text midway through the gig. 'I was hoping to see u tonight. I never thought I'd say it, but you've broke my heart!'
Thought this sounds promising. Not know as a heart breaker by any stretch of the imagination.
Brooklyn White. I am truly sorry and whatever I did to break your heart, I didn't mean to hurt you.

I was sat right near you, just in front of and to the left of the mixing desk, row ZZ. Soon as it started I turned to my mate and said "fuckin hell, they expect us to sit for the whole fucking show?", I couldn't keep still. Mind you I had found a 5 year old stash of shrooms in my freezer, mate supplied plenty of top=notch special brownies, we were flying before the show even began, with Jason Pierce's tunes and showmanship it was a fucking winning combination. Best gig in a couple of years for me. Outstanding.
