Topic: Beirut

Going to Beirut soon. Never been to that part of the world before - not probably top of the list of places I'd like to visit but wondered if any OMJers had any tips or suggestions.

Do I need to pack a tin hat for instance?

It's been described as the Paris of the middle-east, so am I to expect lots of surliness and bad driving?

Re: Beirut

I've never been but a friend of mine was there last year and reckoned it was pretty cool. Good nightlife and gorgeous women though quite expensive for beer.

I'd love to go myself but I've been to Israel, so that's that fucked.

That's right - they check your passport and if you've got an Israel stamp they don't let you in.

A couple of years ago I interviewed the guy who opened this recently (http://www.campbellgrayhotels.com/le-gr … ml?lang=EN), he couldn't speak highly enough about the city. Said it was very relaxed and safe.

Yes, the wines are great. I know a female sommelier, half-Calabrian, half-Lebanese. The most husky woman in the world.

2+1

Water polo and meeting deadlines.
