As he said, well done fella.

What was Hardknott like and what gearing do you have on your bike?

Re: whitby

Hell of an effort. Had to pull out after the car crash.  Back is fucked. Not ridden in 4 weeks. Very pleased for LBB's mob. Been out with them, a good bunch.
Chapeau!

Re: whitby

Sterling effort. Mine are in bits in the basement. Getting fatter as I type.

Re: whitby

Good work, LBB. Hardknott's a bit of a twat............a lot of a twat, in fact.

The insurgency began.................and you missed it.

Re: whitby

It's 3-0 to Hardknott up to now.  Next time I try I'm going there at midnight so there are no distractions.  First attempt was c2c last year when it had me beat before I started as I had it in my head I had no chance of getting up in one.  Got 50% of the way up but when seeing the majority of the other cyclists getting off and pushing, without really thinking I did the same.  Walked about 200 yards before realising I was pushing on a flat section.  Dickhead.  2nd time was a few weeks ago on another organised event.  I was feeling fine when I reached the hairpins and was in a close group of about a dozen bikes.  Looked up and a fucking vintage car rally came over the top of the hill !!  We had to pull in to let them past.  I was determined not to take a single forward step and once the cars had passed I set off again and made it to the top.  But in my head it's another fail so that was 2-0 to Hardknott.  This time I was buzzing and felt nothing would stop me getting up in one. I was only about 400 yards from the top and was feeling great.  There was a bloke just a few feet in front of me pushing.  His bike was on the road and he was walking on the grass verge.  Just as I was about to go round him he stepped on to the road and stopped dead. I had no choice but to put my foot down. Was fucking fuming and  The road the road and stopped dead. I had no choice but to put my foot down let him know it.  Felt bad about calling him a fucking knobhead afterwards but in my defence the blokes who are pushing should show some appreciation for the ones who are making an effort to cycle up. I had to walk about 20 yards until I got to A flat section where I could get going again.  3-0 down.

But by pushing myself harder and spending less time in the food stops I managed to finish three hours quicker than  harder and spending less time in the food stops I managed to finish three hours last year.  Under 12 hours including stops so a silver medal smile

I've got a triple on my bike but not really sure if I get the full benefit with only having a 28 on the back.  Some of the rear cassettes I saw had cogs like dinner plates on them !!  But I can't use that as an excuse as there is also lots of blokes who get up there with much harder gears than I have.

It's a great feeling when you get over the finish line.  I highly recommend this event for anyone who fancies cycling the c2c in one day.  Opens for 2016 entries Monday next week.  Go for it.

Cheers LBB and yes I think I will go for it.

Re: whitby

Good write up. That 2nd time? You did it. Harder to start again than to continue.

I've tried to convince myself that but it doesn't work.  I will beat it next time.  At midnight big_smile

Re: whitby

Signing up on the 6th. Under 11 hours is the target, something to aim for. Physio again tomorrow. Would love to say I'll be able to try and have a crack at Wales In A Day in September (190 miles) but I've had a month off the bike already.
I'll let you know when I'm back out. We still need to do Shibden Wall and Park Rash....

Re: whitby

Looked it up just to see how hard it is. My car wouldn't make it up there.
