Why has the person in the foreground got a red bag on their head?  Is Bamburgh home to some socialist off-shoot of the KKK?

Taken yesterday. Lovely place if weather decent.

That looks ace PC, if the weather holds I'll be swimming here Monday afternoon.

I hope its warmer up there, than it is down here. Everytime I've been up there its been freezing, even in August.

Was sunny but still cold apart from Beadnell Bay. Sheltered from the wind got a bit of lobster chops situation going on.

My family and I were captured for posterity in the grounds of the castle by a tricycle-mounted Google street view off-road camera.

Good luck trying to spot us. It took me an age to find a couple of blured images, and I knew what was looking for.

Mol - that beach looks uncannily like Mwnt beach near Cardigan in Wales.

Re: Northumberland coast

That beach is Keem Bay on Achill Island, twenty miles from where your mother was born. Heathen. They've widened the road, used to be eight feet wide with a sheer drop to the Atlantic, kept most away. You'd often meet a belligerent mountain Ram who would not move. Stalemate, no way you could reverse.

Just spent the weekend here. Superb beach - windswept sand, dunes and cold sun. Fantastic. Get your best jacket on and have a stroll.

Eat at The Potted lobster - superb local bistro.

Cracking little cottage on the Wyndings. After a bottle of wine in front of the log burner we tackled Scrabble. Lo and behold the previous score card fell out - OBL and family!!

Been here a week. Have had a brilliant time.

Staying in Bamburgh and have been to Berwick, Lindisfarne, Farne Islands and will be visiting Alnmouth and Alnwick tomorrow. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Re: Northumberland coast

Strangely, the Northumberland coast is an area we've never really been to or even fancied if I'm honest.
However,we gave it a bash for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago and spent 3 nights based in a lovely little b&b in Bamburgh.
Our room was actually facing the castle which was some view to be honest.

Just me, her indoors and the dog so got wrapped up and took in some lovely walks which was interspersed with various stops at feeding holes serving some nice traditional ales.

Best walk was down to the castle (stunning) then the 3 miles along the beach into Seahouses followed by lunch in a tidy little boozer overlooking the harbour before heading back on the coastal road into Bamburgh.
Agree with everything posted on this thread,a lovely, scenic, pretty much unspoilt coastline with a distinct lack of slot machines/bingo halls or funfairs (thank fuck),just plenty of family types and walkers enjoying the bracing air and fantastic views and trails.

Never got to do Holy Island or Alnwick but we'll definitely be heading back up there.
