Topic: Too much choice....

Want a new waterproof coat. Too many options. Must be blue.....or maybe green.

This is nice, and half price.  Brasher.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

Paramo Alta III. There is a blue one.

Re: Too much choice....

How waterproof do you need it? I got a Paramo Alta 2 in dark green last year and its the most waterproof thing I've ever had. Comes in handy living on the wrong side of the Pennines.

The Alta II is discontinued but if you hunt around, you can , possibly, get a good deal. Don't forget, the chest pockets ARE NOT water proof - they are , on the new Alta III.

Didn't know any of that. You sound like a man who knows his outdoor gear Charlie. I've not noticed that about the chest pockets. The Alta 3 looks ace. More streamlined.

Re: Too much choice....

Mate who climbs, rafts, hikes and generally lives outside told me to buy a Paramo. He's got one that's ancient but still does the job. Was looking at the them in Go Outdoors yesterday. Tried a nice Mountain Equipment recently. Always had a soft spot for their kit. Some gorgeous stuff out there.

Re: Too much choice....

Not sure I can afford it. Or justify it. But, fuck me, it's a nice bit of kit....

Re: Too much choice....

Paramo - excellent kit! Don't buy from GoOutdoors - they palm off old and/or soon to be discontinued stuff to them. There's a particularly good Paramo brand store in Keswick.....

Re: Too much choice....

Just looked at loads around town. Have trawled online. Am keeping the Berghaus I bought 8 years ago.

I have this and it is a lot of bang for your buck.  Proper walking coat - plus it looks the shit in a 60/40 way.

In got some tech wash and nickwax wash in proofer in the summer and put all the old coats through the washer and dryer. Needs must.

If it works,  it works

Never tried Paramo gear before and it's very different to GoreTex and whatnot - see how it goes

I've done it before with an old Patagonia H2No coat. Gets you another year but they don't breath as well after. Could do the spray on rather than use the washing machine but I'm a lazy sod.

I was thinking of waxing a old cotton Ralph Lauren jacket. Anyone else tried that?
