That's a coincidence.  I'm watching Robin Hood.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

My tongue was very much in my cheek.  Mid table obscurity is guaranteed.

The Patrick Bergen version was far superior.

Re: The Championship 2017/18

If I think Forest + movies, then I think I Believe in Miracles. Time perhaps for another airing of this great film (see OMJ thread). Watch that team in action, Dan, and dream on. Football was real back then.

Best Robin Hood was the one with Connery.  Or the Errol Flynn romp.

Leeds United:  Boiling Barnsley's piss since 2018.

I've got three kids and a wife who's collective critical eye is maybe not what yours or mine is.  The Connery one is fine, the wife likes the Costner one although what the fuck it's got to do with Robin Hood or England I don't know.  Half the Sherwood Forest woodfolk appear to be Cornish for a start.

I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got six cans.

Saw it at the cinema, have watched it numerous times since - read the book as well.

I was lucky enough to see Clough teams in the flesh - although not the great team of the late seventies/early 80's.

My cousin played there under Clough. Mark Proctor.

She’s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I’m just another lackey, but I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki...

You say great team, I take it you mean in terms of Nottingham Forest. They were never serious contenders for the league again after winning it in 77/78.

Re: The Championship 2017/18

You underplay them, SL. Forest were a very good side between '75 and '82, that was their cycle with those players. It started in January '75 when Clough & Taylor took over and ended when Taylor retired in May '82 and they broke up their team, their absolute peak was '78 to '80. It's classic Tuckman, it's classic human drama. They were a decent, competitive side between '82 and '92. From '89 onwards Clough succumbed more & more to alcoholism, and the game changed around him.

Anything achieved by any team either domestically or continentally between '70 and '90 has to be considered with reference to Liverpool. You didn't just win something, you had to outperform Liverpool.

82/83 5th 13 points behind winners
83/84 3rd 6 points behind winners
84/85 9th 26 points behind winners
85/86 8th 20 points behind winners
86/87 8th 21 points behind winners
87/88 3rd 17 points behind winners
88/89 3rd 12 points behind winners
89/90 9th 25 points behind winners
90/91 8th 31 points behind winners
91/92 8th 23 points behind winners
92/93 22nd 44 points behind winners

I hope you went out smiling like a child, into the cool remnant of a dream.

Re: The Championship 2017/18

Transfer deadline day - is it finally done?

serie a - highest fee 4m and the Bundesliga was 19m.

Still It was refreshing to see a team actually get all the shit done that was reported.  Forest got seven in and six went out, all seemingly at 10 to eleven.

Hull City v Sheff Utd - tonight

Might be worth a tenner on the game being abandoned
