6Music just playing 'film star' by this lot. What a load of crap. Shit lyrics, Marge Simpson vocals. Total shite.

Saw them early days live. Electric.

Each to their own, but I find them laughably bad.

Seen them live a couple of times a long time ago and thought the first album was a cracker. Not kept up with them over the years but I'm struggling to think why you find them so offensive. There's a lot worse out there. You ever heard The Kaiser Chiefs?

Re: Suede

Is Bernard Butler one of them?

Now, funnily enough, Butler's stuff away from Suede I quite like!

As for Kaiser Chiefs, I'll give Harvest that one. Proper shite.

Re: Suede

Butler's a phenomenal guitar player. They make a decent racket and the sing has shades of Bowie about him.

Speaking of which.

You having a laugh? Not their best song, but still better than most. They are my favouritist band.

Butler is (was?) very good. Richard Oakes is his equal in my opinion (what ever that is worth) and must be the most underrated guitar player ever. Some of the touches on the new album are A1. Every home should have a copy of Dogmanstar in it.

Who is Marge Simpson anyway?

Coming Up is a belter, one of those you can play all the way through. And pretty unique as both me and the Mrs like it (and in the main she likes shite).

She’s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I’m just another lackey, but I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki...

No, I'm not having a laugh. Have ALWAYS thought they're shite, overrated, pretentious crap. But different strokes and all that.

Who is Marge Simpson? If you've got kids, ask them...

Re: Suede

Seen both versions of them and agree with Arches that Oakes is the equal of Butler. Very powerful live band and done some great albums. A tinge of glam about them , guitars up to 11 and a unique voice. Good for me.
Saturday Night from the Coming Up album is a right tune.

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French p*rn.

I agree. Each to their own. I agree with the pretention though. Thats one reason why I like them!

Just remembered who Marge Simpson is? (My kids only watch Jesse!?!) I thought for a minute she was a post punk singer ala Polystyrene or like her out of the Banshees.

Re: Suede

Never really got them the first time round but listened to coming up. I thought the went a bit shit after they added Keyboard and Butler left who is a superb guitarist.

Wild Ones, Stay Together - most of Dogman Star is ace.

That said I thought Barriers sounded awesome when I first heard it on the radio.

Re: Suede

Just watched The Insatiable Ones documentary on Sky Arts - really rather jolly good

I loved then hated Suede in equal measures as they progressed from new and vibrant to a pastiche of themselves (well,  Brett did anyway).  Seeing it all laid out from the start to where they are now was terrifically poignant and actually had me shaking at the end,  proper welling up at it all

There's some talent across that band

Re: Suede

Good wasn’t it.

Makes you realise I am glad I am not in that game. Some of the footage from his crack phase was hard to watch. What a mess!
Still I thought it was very honest. A lot of hurt in some of the members faces.

Just listen to Flytipping though & it feels like They triumphed. I love them !

Extremely honest

If they could have been more honest with each other back in the day it might have all been different - but then again,  they were nobbut kids having the time of their lives

I was constantly saying to myself though "just grab him and take him into hospital/rehab for God's sake"

Have dug out the albums and am listening to them all over again - a delight

(Probably Manics next.....)
