Topic: The Wire

I  know there have been threads on here before but  can't find them.
Just coming  to the  end of the first series, I like it.
First few just seemed like any other American cop show but some great characters, Im liking Omar best so far.
Already have the second series lined up and I can watch it  on telly (instead of having to watch it on this lap top like I  did  the first, region 1).

If I don't see you through the week
I'll see you through the window.

Glad you are liking it.

A lad at work was asking me if I'd heard of it the other day.  He was made up when I said I had them all on DVD.  He just started watching it last night so I'm looking forward to spoiling it for him too smile

BTW - If your DVD player won't play DVD Region 1 I'm pretty sure if you google the model number of your DVD player you should be able to find a code you can use to change your player into a multi region player

Really? Everyday is a school day isn't it.
Just  wish you'd  told me this before I'd watched nearly all of it on here.
You wasn't to know though so you're forgiven.

Re: The Wire

Fuckin loved this by the way. About to start the second  series and even though Im sure I'll enjoy it, Im having slight reservations about it being set in the docks about unions etc. Sounds like mens stuff to me and I can't imagine Omar being in no union.

However, I shall continue and  report back with a review from  an uneducated females perspective.

Don't you worry about Omar - he's still about smile

Here lies the body of Mary Lee; died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her virginity; not a bad record for this vicinity

Season 2 is probably the best bit of tv I've ever seen.

Got more soul, than a sock with a hole.

Re: The Wire

Best in order; 1-3-4-2-5.
1 because of the gradual realisation that it was the best thing I'd ever seen and for D'Angelo; 'the pawns get capped early in the game 'less they some smart-ass motherfucking pawns'
3 for String in his pomp and for the whole Hamsterdam thing
2 has two brilliant and compelling storylines but they never fully join up, do they?

Re: The Wire

In order, best starts: 5, 4, 3, 1, 2.

Series 2 still gets 5/5 and in comparison all other TV drama drops down to 3 at best.

Best montage was Series one, but that doesn't take anything away from any of the others, especially 5.

Series 1 montage:

The best scene was this from Series 5:

Don't blame me if you watch these and then think I've spoiled it for you. If you've got a tele and still haven't seen them in context it's not me that's the problem.

Re: The Wire

this looks good wire fans - sunday 9pm BBC2

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fy4cz

Louis Theroux joins the Philadelphia Police Department patrolling the most dangerous part of one of the most violent cities in America.
With gun carrying drug dealers on every corner, it is now normal for the centre of Philadelphia to stage 30 or 40 homicides a month. Embedded within the Philly rapid response teams, Louis feels a palpable sense of adrenalin mixed with frustration as police and the drug dealing 'corner boys' take each other on night after night. Here is a community desperate for protection but unwilling to talk to the law enforcers for fear of street retribution.
Louis senses a society trying to contain a lawlessness born out of poverty and disaffection. There's mistrust on all sides, although over time Louis sees a complex picture evolve - there are cops and robbers, guns and violence, but also an understanding between both sides. They are all part of 'The Game' which plays itself out night after night between the community and the cops given the task of policing it.

Does anyone else think that Philly just looks like Leeds?
That orange sofa outside the flats just looks like Bruce Lawn at bottom of Tong Rd.

Does Baltimore look like Leeds then.
Don't know why that would be surprizing when Jimmy Mc is Oliver Cromwell.
He's great with an Oxford accent.
He is  British isn't  he? What else has he been in with his  British accent?

Re: The Wire

Strangely enough I'm working on a script called "Trade" (not to be confused with "Meat Trade") about a Manchester Drugs Squad officer who is investigating a suicide in 1980's Acid House Manchester, and it'd be perfect for him. The character becomes obsessed with the twin sister of his dead wife. We've just applied for funding but knowing the way the film industry's going in this fucking country, unless we make it about "cockney gangsters/pseudo West Ham casuals from the 1970's/80's" or a period drama with Kiera cunting Knightly it won't get made. Irv's got matey with David Simon (creator of The Wire) so I think we're gonna try rope him in as Executive Producer. He might be bring some US money to the table. Fingers and sphincters crossed wink
