Re: The Wire

I've recommended it to so many people who've not seen it all and I've still not seen an episode! lol

Mut have been reading about it on here for 4 years or more.

Having missed most of it I decided to wait for the box set, so I'll pick t up for £85 off Play when I'm feeling flush...

Same here. And all the people I've told about it babble excitedly about what they've watched as if I know what they're on about.

If you forget about the box set you can get it much cheaper... works out to about £57 instead of £87

1st time I've seen it in a while

D'Angelo screaming at String "where's Wallace?, where's Wallace?"

top drawer

Poor Wallace, poor D, poor (if that's the right word), String

Stringer (Idris Elba) has just turned up in the brilliant US version of the Office. Just as scary but very, very funn

Re: The Wire

Watched all bar a couple they have shown on BBC2. Does it grow on you? I know this is tantamount to blasphemy on here [and elsewhere] as everyone raves about it but I'm finding it hard going thus far.

I know there are plenty of other wonderful characters but D'Angelo, Stringer, Bodie and Avon were the heart of it for me

How do you recommended something you've not seen?
Only got into it one the last series. Mrs C loves it but me I don't really go in for cop stuff other people's missery as entertainment. I like sport and porn.

Woo hoo hoo

Re: The Wire

I think it's so popular here because it's American - most of the police stuff made here is fecking shite, even though plenty people like The Bill and stuff.  Yanks make better television, esp HBO, I think that's possibly fact.

Re: The Wire

Saw the first couple of episodes on Virgin on demand a while back. Seemed a decent American cop show but had to turn it off because my 11 year old started calling his sister a MoFo. Guess its not 5pm viewing. Now I know one of the leads is an Old Etonian and very posh I kept looking for accent fuck ups.

Re: The Wire

I have just started  watching this and six episodes in , it feels like im sat on a sofa in the middle of hyde park close circa 96
Its ok,  but dont know if my father in law(who loves detective stuff) could handle it. Cant see how its being touted as the best thing ever , only to a certain generation

Re: The Wire

I've avoided this thread up to now, having never seen the Wire

Six episodes into the first series and I'm hooked - one potentially daft question though

Why didn't they just put a wire on the public payphones? Why fuck about with the pagers? Have i missed something amidst all the multi-layered detail?

Re: The Wire

Ordered it off BangCD - £9.99 each for series 1-4 and £14.99 off Amazon for series 5.

Series 5 arrived first and 1-4 are due in about 3 weeks. roll
