Fuck Thursday - I have time now.

Man - I have ummed and ahhed over this. Thought about something i'd never listened to before (a la Jon), something old, something brand new (less than a year old) but went for this instead for reasons i'll explain.

Biffy Clyro - Puzzle - their fourth album.

Like most on here music has been a big part of my life. Since my mum started playing Beatles, Stones and Doors records in the house, then my big sister picking up the baton and getting me into all manner of stuff in the late seventies and early 80's.

I've been flighty with my tastes but in essence I settled on Indie having done all the 80's stuff (electronic, hip hop, new romantic, post punk). However music kinda slid out of my life in the late 90's - Brit pop was a load of shite and I met my wife, made some babies and drank cheap cider - we listened to a lot of Babybird in this period.

Anyway. I started work at the BBC in 1999 and met a lad called Joe Bennett who was a few years younger than me. He was bang into his music as I had been at his age and he introduced me to a lot of new bands i'd not heard of. One being Biffy Clyro a few years after. I was not that enamoured with their first two albums (Blackened Sky and Vertigo of Bliss) but his enthusiasm was infectious.

Things changed however with Infinity Land, and that nearly made it here. However it was Puzzle that got me really interested in more alternative music and how subsequently my tastes have blossomed out. I'll listen to anything these days and surprise myself with some of the things I like.

This has it all for me. Weird, progressive, bit heavy, alternative, repetitive, singing in a Scottish accent, odd chord changes, melody and importantly for me a massive dose of pop. It seems to be pretty slick production wise but better ears than mine will atest to that. I think they went a bit too poppy after this but have arrested that more recently.

Anyway - I love this album - do your worst.
