Mrs. KOTS gave birth to our boy this morning at 8:16 JST. I've only seen a cellphone photo of him so far as the Japanese way is to go into the birth solo and then stay in for 5 further days after the birth. This is further compounded with the current COVID situation.

Then this evening the missus told me she's only allowed to see the baby for 30 minutes a day as he's in NICU getting checked out. The missus has taken anti-parasitic meds throughout the pregnancy after they discovered traces of toxoplasmosis in her blood. The meds are supposed to stop it getting to the baby. He looks fine in the photo, 9 pounds on the button, so a big lad. But I'm no Doctor and any issues usually come up later on in life. I'm sure he'll be home soon enough. Feel for the missus though. Can't be easy for her. 30 minutes a day with your kid is no time at all, especially after spending every waking hour with him for the past 9 months.

I'm looking after the soon to be 5 year old solo at home. She has clearly defined lines between ‘what mommy does’ and ‘what daddy does.’ For the next 5 days at least, I’m going to be doing all of the doing. Went really well yesterday and I went to bed thinking she's a great kid and I'm an alright Dad. In contrast, she's refused to have a bath tonight and has fallen asleep without cleaning her teeth, after trying to wind me up all night. Had to walk away, wasn't happening.

Oh, well.
