I make no apologies for going early as got a busy day tomorrow!

I Saw Arthur at the city Varieties in Leeds in 2004 and not having heard much else apart from this track (later covered by The Damned) I was blown away and Forever changes has been on my playlist ever since. It came as no surprise to Learn that Syd Barrett cited them as inspirations behind some of Floyds early stuff.

I also saw Him play in August of the same year, this time at Benicassim. I had convinced all my mates (who had never heard of him) to fuck off Brian Wilson on the main stage. What followed was a Disaster. Arthur was already half an hour late and the band started up playing but the intro went on for about 5 minutes with no sign of Mr Lee.
Eventually he clambered onto the stage obviously pissed and with white powder streaming from his nose. He attempted to play Alone again but couldn't. He was sat down on a chair and tried to play harmonica but couldn't manage that either. People started booing and leaving the tent I was gutted. My mates gave me some right stick and fucked off to watch the end of the Beach boys greatest hits (never been a fan of mr Wilson so i stayed put). The gig kind of petered out with probably a few hundred left when he eventually gave up. turns out that his best mate and record producer Rick James had died earlier in the week and he had been on a 3 day no sleep drug fueled bender. He had also been diagnosed with Leukemia earlier that year and died just 2 years later aged just 62.
