Anyone been pulled over, nicked, given a talking too?

I was driving back from my dad's on Boxing Day in our 20-year old Volvo, with my wife in the front and 2 brothers and our son sat in the back when we saw flashing blue lights, so naturally pulled over to let them past. Surprisingly they pulled up alongside and asked me to pull over at the next opportunity. Once we'd stopped, this copper asks me to 'accompany him to his car'. This wasn't looking good.

Once in the jam sandwich (do they still call them that?), he proceeded to address me by my first name and ask if it was my car, to which I replied 'of course'. I asked him if I had a rear light out or something and he advised me that, as my vehicle was registered in North Yorkshire, but I was now 'cross border' i.e. in West Yorkshire, they had to check for possible vehicle theft. This is a 20-year old Volvo estate, not a Subaru Impreza, I opined, but he assured me people will nick anything and try to sell it. He checked me against the police computer and wished me a good Xmas and New Year before letting me on my way.

I suspect, when he saw 3 large lads in the back, he thought we were up to no good, especially as we were driving through a pretty posh part between Shipley and Bingley. Does anyone know Nab Wood? Fucking big houses there, so we were obviously casing the joint.

My son thought it was very exciting, my wife less so. Anyone, I avoided turning up on the local news having 'died in custody', which was a positive thing.
