Wife's birthday today. Three of us headed off to Malham Cove - rammed. Couldn't get parked. Drove round the car park there for 15 minutes, no-one came out. Overspill car park closed as too boggy. In the end we drove a few miles on in the direction of Settle and pulled into a little layby. Tramped off into the hills for a couple of hours, beautiful crisp, sunny day. So quiet, no wind at all.
Went into Settle and had some scran and a pint at The Talbot. Lovely friendly place, probably the best burger I've ever had. Bit of a mooch round, bookshops etc.
Drove back and with all that fresh air and heavy grub I could feel my eyes going. Those tiny half second micro-sleeps that you can't shake off. Had to stop and have a walk round and a coffee. Anyway, home in one piece and the first walk of the year done. We'll do Malham Cove again soon but set off about 2.30am.
