When living in Paris I can safely say I 'needed' about 5 or 6 espressos to get myself going, mainly through the evil that is the Nespresso machine, not very good coffee either. Since living in the Northern Territories, a nice espresso on a terrasse, reading L'Equipe and watching the world go by is a non- starter and alas distant memory and subsequently I've taken up tea. Im loads calmer and less stressed on Dr Stuarts non caffeine tea. Downside is that I can't get going so to speak so its back to the trusty Bialetti oven top coffee jug + a healthy dose of Illy on a morning for two cups max. Coffee, my last vice ...

I gave up the coffee in the 90s after reaching the IT industry standard intake of 12 cups a day. I felt a lot better for giving it up.I now occassionaly drink a nice brew from a caffetiere (spelling?), my tipple of choice being the Taylors of Harrogate "Lazy Sunday". Well tasty, not too strong, but still hits me like a fat line of charles. Morrisons also do a nice Ethiopian Mocha ready ground which is chocolatey and smooth and a bit more kick than the lazy sunday.

I do two to four cups a day, americanos made with illy or Lavazza coffee in my stove top Alessi pot that I've had since ninety eight. It's almost ritualistic. I only drink it in the mornings move onto tea in the afternoons. Incidentally there's no point to caffeine free tea, you don't absorb the caffeine in tea the way you do with coffee. Everybody responds to caffeine differently as with many drugs but generally 4 to 6 cups of coffee a day is not bad for you, as long as they're normal cups and not the pint pots they dish up at Starbucks etc. In fact moderate coffee intake is good for you as it makes you regular and helps guard against colonic cancer. To put it in perspective the stroke clinic I was in allowed it's patients six cups a day.

Can't get through the day without some serious scoops of Lavazza.

Never drank coffee - hate the smell and taste. I worked down Kent way for a while next to a place that smoked coffee beans - fair made me puke when i walked past. I occasionally feel jealous when i hear people talking about the differing attributes of a 'musty Ethipoian' v 'wet and wonderful Costa Rican' but I flick one of the wrist and it passes.Lemon and Ginger in the morning - couple of 3 cups - and then peppermint after midday. My old man calls it "gay tea" when he comes down and my old dear looks old unapprovingly - they like builders tea, Yorkshire Tea bags natch.

Mellow Bird's, surely?

Coffee is the essence of life first thing on a morning. Can't function without one. No milk ever. Can live with a black earl grey if there's no decent coffee around, but not the same as hit from a dark, rich double espresso.
