I always remember China Crisis being on some show before Heysel, might have been the Whistle Test when they bought that back. They were playing King In A Catholic Style, I think and the guitarist had this Liverpool FC sticker on his guitar. I remember turning over to watch the football and seeing all these hellish events unfold. Horrible, horrible images and yet there's always some little, pathetic thing that stays with you. I'll never forget feeling sorry for the guitarist, thinking poor guy, must be really looking forward to kicking back and watching the match after playing the song... was it Becker from yer Dan that produced that album (the one with Black Man Ray on it, would've been the third album, I think)? My sister's boyfriend at the time had a copy of it. I remember listening to the Nightfly and thinking, woah, sounds like China Crisis...

It was Whistle Test Fulmine. Gary had a 'Art For Arts Sake' T-shirt on. Eddie had the sticker on the guitar. See him at the match. See him in the chinese chippy too.It was actually recorded the night before but broadcast before the match on the night of the final. I read that Eddie went to the match the following day.I turned over and watched the madness unfold. 30 minutes before that, life couldn't get any better, favourite band on the telly, match coming up, probably wearing Farahs (black ones not salmon pink like Ste Hartley). Then sheer and utter madness. I always remember that lad with the pole.Yes it was Becker. He also did an album for Rosie Vela which I've never heard but was always mentioned in hi-fi mags as a shit hot production.

Ah, cheers LS. (Cracking clips, too.)

I bought that Rosie Vela album, on the strength of the Becker connection, + the single Magic Smile which came off it. Apart from the single it wasn't very good. She was a bit of a looker though, had a small part in the film Heavens Gate as well.
