I was in the CAMRA famous Liverpool pub one Sunday talking to one of the Lotus Eaters, he was low key about it, wasn't in the band for too long. But was making a living out of music and seemed happy with his lot.
I dug a little bit afterwards and he was on the Totp for the first chart single. My take on it was they had probably been four lads who got together to form a band, no realisation of what might happen so they split the money equally. Suddenly big money is realistic and the main two creative talents in the band, create a split and then take most of the money themselves. That's me reading between the lines on our conversation. I bet it happened a lot.
