On this mornings commute i played the whole of Troutmaskreplica ,an album ive continuously played for the last 40 years .
Over the years as my music tastes change ,develop ,grow ,go through phases , this is an absolute constant .
This for me is the greatest album ever made ,and if essential albums were limited to just one album for me this is it.
It thrilled me ,delighted me ,intrigued me ,this morning ,it excites me sitting here thinking about it ,and from my perspective made most music seem somewhat shallow in comparison .
Im still hearing bits ive never heard before.
Frenchs drumming style , Antennae Jimmy Semmons and Zoot Horn Rollos guitars battling it out yet entwining at the same time , over,around and sometimes under Rockette Mortons Bass.
And then theres Don , being Don.
What a voice.
Its an album that could never happen again ,and like all good albums/bands is a product of a time and place .
Its an album that takes time ,theres no instant appeal ,you have to stick with it ,perservere.
Its worth it.
I consider myself blessed that i can listen ,revel and loose myself in this album.
Regardless of the genre ,artist,song ,thats the best part of it all ,we all have our own "troutmask" in our colections .
