This one slipped by me to be honest - died on 20th

I remember eating in his brasserie place in Lyon, Le Sud. He wasn't in the kitchen obviously but the whole experience was wonderful especially as I was being entertained by a supplier! It was North african influenced and the smell and tastes wee amazing (he had 3 others le Nord, l'est, l'Ouest which all had a different geographical taste on its food)

Later I ate at his 3* star place, l'Auberge du Pont de Collonges, again in Lyon. A true gastronomic experience (pardon the cliche but I can't think of any other way to describe it). Just really really good quality food cooked really really well - multiple flavours all balanced well some of which were very different. Unfortunately i had to pay for this one myself but it was worth it!

Managed to see The Fall twice
Way back in the early eighties at A long gone establishment The Hellfire club Wakefield
Saw them again canned off stage supporting U2 at Elland Road
Also saw Mark E Smith when he did a guest appearance with The Gorrilaz at Glastonbury
He only had one line, had it written down on a piece of paper and still got it wrong.
Ten o'clock news has just played a snatch of Hit The North!

I was thinking about booking the Fall for a gig in Halifax in 1979, I was a shitty little 16yo audit clerk in a little accountancy firm in Halifax. I rang Rough Trade in London up on the phone in my room, got the Fall's number. Rang em up and made an enquiry, Kay Carroll savaged me, Mark E was in the background chipping in. I didn't stand a chance, she started haranguing me with stories of flaky promoters stiffing them for the money. I hardly got a word in. I dropped my interest.

Must have been 1980 if I rang Rough Trade. I was a shitty little 17yo etc.

It's a blot on Halifax that The Fall never played there, Hebden being the closest.

2018 is looking like it will give 2016 a run for it's money in the Reaper Stakes.

Never a massive fan, but i could appreciate his work.

I remember the song Glam Racket slagging of Suede. That was good.

Sad news, we could do with more like him in a world that like Coldplay!

In my head I have a new classification for it. If it was the shelved CD section of a music shop it would have to be a huge megastore. The section would titled Shite with an A to Z of Shite.

As mate said to me that they were a favourite of John Peel so they must have been good. It made me think of red wine, craft beer and the Emperor's new clothes.
