Travis_Bickle It was on Channel 4. Can't find it on YouTube. Wasn't there an assault on him in the 70s that led to his decline? Suggestion was he'd pissed off the wrong people or something.
Flaneur Travis_Bickle It's hard to track down. https://ok.ru/video/36472359664 https://m.ok.ru/video/2717584049
Under-the-ground Flaneur good write up that. Sounds like a film waiting to be made. could be done like the wrestler
cordshoes Is he the one who said the famous line at 1.09 below? We used to dick about saying that to each other as nippers, if we were bored, or just anytime.
Under-the-ground Flaneur thanks for posting them. Pretty harrowing! the manager was worth the money alone. Obviously so proper shady stuff went on. This needs to be made into a film. The reverse of Queen , thanks again
Flaneur cordshoes Yeah. And now apparently, there's high-glam (Bowie/Roxy) and low-glam (Sweet etc.). The Sweet's run of singles was really strong though. If they'd have done that gig with The Who, they'd have been far more successful I reckon.
fulmine I never really think of early Roxy as glam. Obviously I know they were strictly speaking, but they were doing stuff far beyond the kitsch bricklayers in eyeliner brigade.
Flaneur cordshoes It's a classification I'd never heard before, until I started reading about The Sweet. Bowie called Bolan high-glam; https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2001/apr/02/artsfeatures.davidbowie Other reading: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=MlnBDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA39&lpg=PA39&dq=glam+rock+high+glam+low+glam&source=bl&ots=dBygDkO6dP&sig=ACfU3U0hlEyATjOiAViCTRIdrOJdYe07hQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiYgvam_ezpAhWvgVwKHd_EDC44ChDoATADegQIChAB#v=onepage&q=glam%20rock%20high%20glam%20low%20glam&f=false http://www.erikclabaugh.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/181899847-Subculture.pdf https://davidbuckingham.net/growing-up-modern/glitter-glam-and-gender-play-pop-and-teenybop-in-the-early-1970s/against-authenticity/
Harvest fulmine There's an argument that they were more prog than anything if it comes down to labels. I guess if you daubed on a bit of eyeshadow and wore a sparkly shirt in the early 70s then you were going to be lumped in with the Glam gang.
fulmine Harvest I think they were more glamorous than glam. Models on the cover, stylists among the credits, art school archness... mot very geezerish at all, which I always associate with prog.
