I don't mean to be rude but my abiding memory of Paul Mariner is a comment my dad used to say, occasionally when we watched England together. After a shot from 20 or so yards had gently rolled wide or into the goalie's arms my dad would say "I could have farted it harder", it always seemed to be after a Mariner shot.
He did a good job for Ipswich part of their best team in my lifetime.
