fulmine There was some South African batsman he had a bit of a spat with. Didn’t face him again for four years. Warne glared at him, said “I’ve waited four years for this moment.” “Looks like you spent most of it eating,” South African said. (Couldn’t be bothered to Google who it was. Always feels like cheating in these situations)
Kevin_Stapleton Blimey. One of the all time greats. A fantastic spinner of the ball but I would reckon he got most of his wickets by getting into the batsman’s mind. ”Bowling Shane!” RIP
doggybag Kevin_Stapleton Totally. After he made Mike Gatting look like a drunk every batsman in the world was shitting it. What a talent that boy had.
Reggie_Perrin fulmine probably laughed and bowled him clean from 3ft off plum. Bowling Warney. Legend RIP.
oneallanclarke This is properly shocking and upsetting. I know there are many on here who don’t like or get cricket but those of us who do know that the bloke was a genius with the ball in his hand. Above his peers like Cruyff or Messi in football. Quite flawed as a person (though aren’t most of us), and to tell the truth I’ve often laughed at him but he was full of enthusiasm, someone who you could see enjoyed life. And what a player he was.
Anchor Often think what that England would have been like if the ECB had grown a pair. KP skipper and Warne running the show. That would have been fun. Appaz he was up to his nuts in pros and changged off his face. Fucking hero.
Anchor Reggie_Perrin Complete cunt but what a player and I can only imagine the team he'd have created. We will never know.. Not sure of the accuracy of this obvs.
Cooley Anchor Not a bad way to go if you ask me. Sure beats ending your days in a home covered in poo.
Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Frank O'Farrell former Man United manager. A man reputed to have only got the job cos he was a Catholic. Cordshoes is that correct?
cordshoes Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Never heard that, although the club had a Catholic influece at that time, via Busby. Apart from his religion I believe he had managed professional football clubs before. He lived in a big house on Eccles Old Road facing Buile Hill Park, it's still there. A mate of mine lived there during the 80s and 90s. His dad was a bit of a lad who'd done well for himself.
Mega_Armageddon_Chickens cordshoes The Catholic thing I always thought was the case but weren't the Edwards a big Salford Catholic family as well? The O'Farrell comments may originate from the mischievous Tommy Docherty or even Brian Clough. I have some memory of Atkinson being the first non catholic manager. Strange what you remember.
