I was born in 1962. The pub rock scene in the mid-70s and the later punk/ post-punk scene inspired me to go into higher education - that and an overwhelming desire to leave home. Dr Feelgood was a big influence. Colleges were regular venues on the music scene at the time, so I wanted to go to where the action was. My claim to fame was interviewing Nine Below Zero for the student union newspaper in about 1982. They had just appeared on The Young Ones, so they were at the peak of their career. The student paper was called the Birmingham Sun, which had originally been called "The SUN" (student union news). The national newspaper bought the name off them, hence the name change.
I told the bouncers on their dressing room door that I was from the Sun (as the paper was known by the students), and was invited in shortly after, to find the band lined up mooning me. They thought I was from the national paper. How we all laughed!
