Death List 2026

The Everton side he had was a great side, an iconic side. Probably other than milan, I doubt any other city has produced the best two European sides at the same time as liverpool in the mid 80's. They even looked the part, great kit, boots & haircuts. He was on his way down when he managed us, but we played some beautiful football that season, proper ball to feet, ball on the floor stuff. Lost out to that set of shithouses from South Norwood in the play offs to a fluke goal. He had his problems with drink, and that effected everything; family & career.

Kendall's Everton team were a gang akin to our own side of Sheridan, Wright etc... I loved watching them play. The image of the subs singing along on the bench with the fans in tbe cup at Notts County, you'll never see stuff like that again, not with tbe same sentiment. Bought Gray, saved his job, sold Gray bought Liniker. That was a great side. Problems with drink? I've never held that against anyone.

I've had 3 messages already today from mates about the passing of Howard Kendall.

All my mates used to call my dad Howard as they are more than a passing resemblance to each other.

Great manager.

Yes one of those that fans of all clubs acknowledge as a good un.

Kendall was in the same team as Bryan Ferry.

John Cave, ex chairman of the trust in the early days, thorn in the side of Bates, wrote as Jailhouse John for the squareball, Leeds fan of 60 years +, top bloke and a great pal of mine for more than 15 years. Funeral is today.
The funeral will be 11am at Cottingley Crematorium and the funeral cortege will call at the Don Revie Memorial on Lowfields Road at Elland Road around 10.30am to lay flowers and where Marching On Together will be played on the stadium tannoy as a mark of respect to John.

The Cave family invites Leeds United supporters who wish to pay tribute to this fine man’s memory to join them for this poignant moment. The family have asked that fans wear club colours and not mourning ones as John himself would have wanted.

John Cave was an ex Chair of the Leeds United Supporters Trust and the most respected of fans campaigners.
Yeah Pat Eddery just 63, it's one of the very few celebrity deaths that has made me feel a little melancholy.

He is amongst the greatest of jockeys, I hated opposing a horse he was on when I was starting out.

He rode Grundy when I was a kid so I was always a bit of a fan, then the rivalry with Starkey with To Agori Mou and Kings Lake and then Dancing Brave amongst many others.

It must be a misplaced nostalgia but the 70s seemed a golden era for sports, flat racing had Eddery, Carson, Cauthen, not to mention Piggott.
