I know he was one of the hate figures of our youth, but let's face it, without him and Thatcher the Good Friday agreement would never have been signed. At the very least you have to mark him down as a very important figure of the 20th and 21st century.

Yep,definitely important,but then again so was Adolf Hitler in a strange sort of way.

Just read the Norman Tebbit statement about him. So scathing it's all probably true.

He got on well with Ian Paisley in the end, which speaks volumes about how far they came and achieved. Certainly achieved more than the Black and Tans ever did.
