Moist soil is my mortal enemy. I had a dozen lavender plants drown on me last year. Everything I’d like to plant requires drier conditions than we have here. Planted it out the back, away from the water pipes.
Had a massive oak removed when we first moved in, we’re on a hill, the yards like a fucking swamp at times.
Me and the youngest were hoping to do a native species type back yard for the pollinators but can you fuck find any native plants in the nurseries. Can send out of state for seeds. Figure that one out. There’s a meadow on the hill top over grown with native plants, looks ace, wouldn’t mind transplanting some but that would probably be the crime of the century in this town. Also had a beautiful cherry tree die on me. Would like to chop it down and burn it but one set of neighbours seem to think everything I do is bad. I wish they’d go in holiday.
My my go to book has been The Lazy Gardener.
Lawn is basically green weeds but the problem is we’re on a hill sideways, if that makes sense and the front also falls away from the house so it’s a pain to do anything major. House is a fixer upper lots to do still and not much money. Fair bit of concreting to replace also, pathways, retaining walls. It looks immeasurably better than when we bought it mind.
Oh, gap shorts, New Order T Shirt. LL Bean Mocs. Sat out the back enjoying the breeze.
