Started a job just before Xmas, will be doing 26 miles a day when the weather is less than filthy. I'm happy I have a reason to get out again.

MTBs. Pal hasn't got back to me yet so happy to ride anywhere. I'd have signed up LBB but I'm in France....thank fuck. Have to get out for a ride round your way soon. Back's well on the mend so plenty of miles to catch up on.Envy you SL. Sounds like a cop out but I can't realistically cycle when I'm in court. Using the train to Leeds now and thinking about cycling to the station but no bike stores at Brighouse.

Cycled into work for the first time today, 13.5 miles.I thought I'd suffer and set off in plenty of time so i could take it steady, I did the first 11 mile in only 3 minutes more than a standard time from the days when i was a lot fitter, and i was being careful not to kill myself.I was suprised how well it went.On the way home again it wasn't bad at all, didn't suffer except for my arse which is a more than a bit tender now. I'm hoping to do it again tomorrow but i won't bother if it's very wet, not whilst it's cold.I tried to run up the stairs tonight and couldn't lift my leg off the floor, so even though i feel fine it's taken it' toll. It's good to be back on the bike.

Did my second day yesterday, 30 mph winds helping me all the way into work, it was great. Kindly they had died down on the way home.I'm really enjoying being back on the bike.Back to Yorkshire for the weekend. Can't wait.

Gisburn tomorrow. Not been for ages. Should be a slide-fest in the mud. I will fall off......
CharlieG
Oh, Gisburn. Also haven't been for ages. Last time I did fall off....

Rock section on Home-Baked. Got all excited, bit too quick, thought I was faster than I actually am....

Back to Gisburn today for the first time in nearly 4 years.Last time I went was in February of 2012 (I checked my emails so I know) when I did a skills course with the bearded guru that is Ed Oxley. Met a bloke on the course that is now a good pal that I go riding with regularly. We've been all over since but today was our first return to Gisburn.Did reds and blacks today.Funny to think that back then the rock garden at the end of the Home Baked red trail seemed unrideable and yet we were down it with no thought today. Did Hully Gully which is mental. Think a rollercoaster with a bit of wall of death but on a bike. Was stupidly wet, massive puddles all over which meant we were soaking by the end.Gisburn has as much up as down so I was knackered by the end but loved it. The whole back thing last year has meant I'm working on getting fit again. No Strava today. Today was about riding with 3 mates and enjoying it.Day didn't start well when we saw the air ambulance landing to pick up an injured rider as we arrived in the car park....

Gonna lash it down tomorrow. Been fucking about with the bike today, managed to align the front brake so that a bit of the pad will actually touch the rim. Back one's shot. Off out in the morning.

Had one of them moments today where you don't think you are about to die but you are aware it might be just about to happen.Cycling through Douglas on my way home from work, on the road rather than the promenade which always seems to hold surface water when i'm passing a van with it's hazards on, which starts to pull out on me just as i'm approaching the outer rear wheels, I have a quick look over my shoulder to make sure i'm not about to kill myself and then move out a couple of foot, all would have been fine, the van stopped after moving out a foot but me moving out two foot put me on the wet tramlines and my wheels went from under me, i'm convinced I'm going down in front of the following car which is now quite close but only doing 20mph ish, somehow I managed to stay up right, i don't know how I did it, but the fact i did gave the car behind me just enough room to go around me into the lane of oncoming traffic which fortunately was empty. Just for a split second I thought i'd made it before I crossed the tramline again and it happened again, again somehow i stayed up right and was able to carry on.I felt a right twat, at the lights i pulled up alongside the car which had avoided me, looked in and gave the driver an apologetic look and a thankful wave, he was only a kid, he just looked at me all nonchalant and cool as fuck and gave me a wave. He was probably thinking what a driver he was. I owe him one.I've only ridden the sea front a handful of times and i've always been very respectful of the tramlines crossing them at a good angle, I didn't know how treacherous they are when wet, I won't risk being forced onto them again.

Cousin's Mrs had a shocking off in Sheffield on the tramlines. Dangerous things.
Young_Marxist_at_Tescos
Level crossing at Streethouse. Always cross it from nearside, aiming towards centre of road to try and get as square on as possible.

Trust me, I'd have done the horse over the lass leading it down the trail.....

I've done 3% of my 5000 miles in a year challenge. Cycling in a lot of rain at the moment, the only downer is the bastards who won't turn off the full beam, on totally unlit roads it's seriously debilitating, i have to brake quite often and head for the kerb to stop until they've passed. I'd kill the cunts with a click of my fingers if I could. Sociopath I think.
CharlieG
With you on that, SL.

Gas is cheap again, more and more 4x4s and trucks on the roads by us. I sometimes wish I'd bought a mountain bike. How cheap? $1.67 a gallon last night.

Went to Mytholmroyd to get a picture framed and then onto Hebden Bridge today. I've been planning on getting a 'dropper' seatpost for the mountain bike so decided that I'd get it from Blazing Saddles in HB. It'll probably work out a bit more expensive than buying online but they'll fit it for nowt (it's a 'stealth' one, means the cables run inside the frame which can be a twat to sort so I'll let them have the grief) and, more importantly, they need the trade. Took my daughter in. She's been in a few times and was really shocked. Apart from a few boxes of bits and a solitary 2015 Orange 5 there was nothing in there. Chatted to the owner. They've got the workshop sorted but haven't really got any stock. The shop is literally a shell, nothing on the floor or walls. Most of the shops on the main drag were shut and empty. A few are okay but it's really a handful. I know it's corny and nobody died but they could really do with some brass so if you're local and you need something buy it in the Valley. Or if you fancy a day out, walk, whatever, try round Hebden. Easy to be cynical, bunch of hippies and all that but we all talk a lot about community. They live it.

I've done 400 miles of my 5000 target. I'm absolutely loving it. Out at 6.30 dark and cold and sometimes raining but happy to do it unless it's particularly bad. I took the bus on Tuesday didn't fancy the 60mph winds. Came home tonight into 30mph head wind, hard work but enjoyable. I'm now fancying doing a few miles on my days off now i'm back in the groove, not many just a few to keep my total ticking over. I can't wait for the longer days, i'll vary my route home, have my eye on a cracking hilltop back road. I've lost 10lb this month without moderating my eating.
