ObL69 wroteJust spent the first day driving south. Did about 500 miles, never saw a single stretch of roadworks but.. And it's a big but, 50 euros in tolls already. Add on the hotel, and 70 euros for the evening meal/bevvy and fuel and you've got to wonder whether we should have flown. Great meal mind and top booze. That came after being turned away at various restaurants that were apparently 'complet'.. I'm asking in French as well, they were still dead rude. Another but.. When I'm sitting with my beer, next to the Abbaye, in Tournus' centre ville, on a warm evening, i knew what I'd done the hard miles for.
Set off yesterday. Cambridge to Le Mans. England awful traffic wise, France was clear, but expensive. Dodgy meal in a Mecure last night after they grudgingly reopend the restaurant after they'd close it a 930pmLe Mans to Burgos today, wall to wall traffic all the way from Tours to 100km south of Bordeaux. Typical holiday weekend shite. Just stop/start and one of the worst meals ever in a Buffalo Grill in Bordeaux at lunch time. To make it worse my dyslexia kicked in and I confused Andoulette with sausage.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andouillette and yes it smelt of shit as well as tasted of it. :rolleyes:Just back from a wander round Burgos - Medieval'd to fuck and a fantastic meal in an Asado overlooking the Cathedral. You can keep France. Even the nice bits. Just make the drive shorter or just add a few lanes for the money they charge to drive across it.Short hop to Madrid tomorrow so the wife can make us all go look at some god awful Picassos again...Oh, and its sunny, dry and 26c. :D
