hendersonjones I worked 3 summers at the Victorian psychiatric hospital at Clifton in York as a domestic assistant, during my time as a student. Majority were elderly dementia patients, including some as you describe HJ. Then there was the progressive care unit which was for the younger mentally ill people.
The electric shock treatment, since discredited, was still in use, and I remember having to clean the equipment complete with its arm and leg stirrups and securings.
