Can’t not mention the Peter “The Cat” Bonetti Eric Morecambe gag.
Peter “The Cat” Bonetti’s strolling down the road when he sees a block of flats on fire. A woman’s screaming that her child is trapped in the top floor flat, standing on a small balcony. Peter “The Cat” Bonetti says to her, “Call out to your child, tell him to jump, I’ll catch him and return him safely.” The woman isn’t sure, but people around her reassure that Peter “The Cat” Bonetti is one of the country’s great goalkeepers. So, she calls out to her child, “Jump, jump!” The child jumps, falling through the air. Peter “The Cat” Bonetti springs into action, twisting his body and grabbing hold of the child with one hand, before clutching the child close to his chest. The gathered crowd gasps, then breaks out into applause. Peter “The Cat” Bonetti waves them away, bounces the child twice on the pavement and boots it up the high street.
