zico I remember this game as a kid, Lorimer went in goal. First game of the 72/73 season if I remember correctly, at Stamford Bridge. Read about it in the Green or Pink sports paper, which used to be cutting edge 50 odd years ago. I was gutted we lost.
Odd_Job fulmine Billy Ashcroft tells a great tale of playing against Johan Cruyff, and getting subbed off. In anticipation of him being subbed, he’d asked the sub to have his fags on the bench and promptly lit up. Next minute, Cruyff appeared from the Fereynord dug out to cadge a ciggie and a light.
