My mate bought Loaded in that period when we were digging into influences of bands we liked. The Doors, Al Green, Love and The Velvets were the big ones. When he played Who Loves The Sun we were like little kids. Put it on again. What if the rest of the record is like this? Could it all be this good?
It’s interesting, years later, when you know some of the history of the record that it remains so high on my list of favourites, that I still hear new things in it and rather than be cynical about any of the songs, I’ve only grown fonder of them.
As for The Velvets in general, I love stuff like Heroin and I’m Waiting For My Man but it’s the quieter ones that really do it for me, Pale Blue Eyes, Sunday Morning and the like. Some talent.
