Jon Harvest I can’t remember the sums involved but I think you’re right. I don’t remember any of the match. I think I remember Baird stood at the entrance to the players tunnel watching it all for a while.
Harvest Jon It was an outside chance if results went our way and we won. I think we lost anyway. Probably for the best. Awful to say but the Bradford fire happening the same day took so much focus off us. It would have been a fairly major news story otherwise.
Bod Harvest Weren't we losing at half time and the other team was winning, can't remember who it was, and that's why it all kicked off
zico Bod We needed snookers that day and I am sure City were well ahead at half time, they went up. Pompey were in the mix, but even if we had won, we wouldn t have gone up.
Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Jon I love that photo just for the old woman with the handbag at the front in the middle. I wonder what she told her friends.
CBIT Jon I remember chatting to him 6 months or so later when he went to court for it, argued he was waving his his arms to keep his balance rather then beckoning people to climb the fence......got off with it as well !
Jon CBIT That’s amazing. Has my mind totally gone or were Andy L and that ginger lad with the glasses everyone called Joe 90 taking penalties in the goal mouth at one point? I can remember Bollock and some other yobbos trying to bash the gates open but they weren’t even locked. I don’t think it registered at the time how violent a day it was. I think it was the last match I went to with Tatty who was good fun back then. Just sort of disappeared after. I bet that Joe 90 lad was rock or he’s on here or someone’s best mate and I’ve now got a price on my head cause no one calls him Joe 90.
Bod Jon Were they trying the gates with a big piece of timber, probably from the snack shop that was smashed up ?
Bod Jon Has my mind totally gone or were Andy L and that ginger lad with the glasses everyone called Joe 90 taking penalties in the goal mouth at one point? That rings a bell, I think they were
Jon Bod Something like that. You can see them on the footage of the trouble. Like they’re trying to smash down the doors of a castle. Rhythmic. Coordinated.
Jon Bod My mind is shot to pieces of late. I think I remember something then there’s other things I have no memory of at all. Sometimes I think other people are bullshitting, their memories seem so good.
Foxy_Dread Jon Yes. Although they had no fences to overcome so bonus points to Leeds for determination. Leeds initially occupying the police made it easier for them to get up a head of steam. I didn't see much outside the ground. I hitched down on my own, had about a mile to walk down some busy local shopping street. I must have had a sense of keeping my head down as I didn't nip into a chippy which was unusual for me. Though it might have been because of queues. I just went straight in the ground.
Foxy_Dread The maths, we needed to win and Man City had to lose. We might have needed an extra goal as well. Leeds fans were excited when the tannoy announced early on that Man City were losing. Within five minutes via radios Leeds fans learnt Man City were in fact winning and the announcer was taking the piss. Not long after Birmingham scored. Cue the mayhem. I
Foxy_Dread Harvest ha we needed three teams to slip up. I should stop relying on my fucked up memory.
